    Gun Bluing

Good evening to all. I would like to have a 1911 blued. Any suggestions for a local gunsmith that does quality high polished bluing?

The gun is new and has a parkerized finished.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.
    Happiness is a warm gun.

Hot Flash. I have used them numerous times. Excellent work.

Not local, but Glenrock is one of the very best in the Country. I recently had them do an old S&W model 27 for me, it came back perfect. It looks as good as the old S&W work from the 40's and 50's. Many custom builders use them. Shipping a firearm is really not a big deal. An easy process with both Fedex and UPS.

they list several bluing choices which one did you use for your model 27 to get original old time S&W blue look?

I had the Deluxe finish. The polish job is excellent. Took the time to do it right. All of the original markings are still clean and readable and the metal is perfect. I was told that a true S&W expect can tell the difference between the new finish and an old time original, but I certainly cannot.

Check out the photo's on their website.

Thanks guys. I wish gunbluing had more pictures.

I have some smithing and machine work that needs to be done before bluing. Are there any local smiths that do checkering?

I've done it myself and it turned out pretty good.

                edit: rust bluing.

Techplate in Anaheim does bluing, among other finishes. I've not used them myself, but it's about 40miles from you.

I'm all for doing it myself, it would give me more reason to buy tools and such.

Would you mind sharing some pictures of your rust bluing?

Slow rust bluing is not the finish to use for high polish though... it will be plenty shiny but can't do it on highly polished surface. Not how I understand it anyway.

I posted a video on the process on Youtube. Not to say that I am god of bluing, but I believe I followed the process pretty well.
