I'm looking to buy a Colt Wiley Clapp Government model. May take awhile to find one as it's (of course) off roster. Any feedback from owners on quality of the build and any parts they replaced? My primary reason for looking for one is that it's spec'd pretty close to what I want, although I'll need to change out the safety. Curious to hear owners' experiences. Thanks.

I dont have a Govt, but I have the Commander size.
I think its one of the nicer options out there for its price point. Fit and finish is amazing, the checkering is awesome, but kind of aggressive so just be warned. Like the ad said, all the stuff you want, none of what you dont. -
Its a shame that you're in SoCal because I'm actually considering selling her to fund a Les Baer; I own the government model and contrary to what I just stated, I do love the gun. The subtle design cues really complete the look for me, and it has pretty good fit and finish; it doesn't have the typical sharp edges evident on most current production Colts.
I alternate between Nutmeg Ivory grips and Esmeralda Cocobolo grips because I'm not all that fond of the Wiley Clapp grips. My only real gripes are minor: the "rattley" nature of the grip safety and trigger.Last edited by ghostrider4evr; 03-08-2017, 9:13 PM.Comment
