Beretta magazines

I recently purchased a Beretta 92SB compact from another CalGunner and because the original magazines hold way too many rounds for California, I'm in the market for a couple of 10 round magazines. I'm coming to all of you because I'm not sure which mags will fit in this gun. I see magazines listed for the 92f and the 96 as though they are interchangeable. Can I get some assistance from any of you who know? Thanks in advance.

Mec gar mags for beretta are the play here. They work well and you can get 10 rounders.

I've used MecGar before and like them. But do the same magazines fit both the 92 and 96?

Just an FYI...

OEM Beretta 10-round magazines have stamped in sides and hold the rounds in a single stack formation. Finish is some kind of matte parkerized or blue.

Mec-Gar 10-round magazines hold the rounds double stacked like OEM 15-round Beretta. Finish is a shiny type blue and seem more slick than OEM.

Both are reliable. I like the finish on Mec-Gar better.

No, the 92 is 9 mm and the 96 is 40 caliber.

If it's an SB with the heal release, you need to make sure it has the cut out for it. Last time I checked, factory 92 mags still had this cut, but it's been a long while. Whether or not 10 round mags or non factory mags have I don't know
Era: looking at random images of factory 10s, they don't have the cut.
An aftermarket mag with the super big floor plate won't work either.
Again, assuming it's a heel release

If it isn't a heel release, I'm pretty sure a standard 92 compact will work.
Beretta shop has them.
Cdnn might too.

SB models have the mag release at the trigger guard not at the heel.You will need compact not full size mags like this one.

The 92SB, initially called 92S-1, was specifically designed for the USAF (US Air Force) trials (which it won), the model name officially adopted was the 92SB. It included the changes of the 92S, added a firing pin block (thus the addition of the "B" to the name), and relocated the magazine release catch from the bottom of the grip to the lower bottom of the trigger guard. This one was from the 80's. The mag release is high and the mags were 13 round. I think you hit on exactly what I was looking for.

Ah, its the -S that has the heel release.
Lots of cheap Italian trade in pistols with heel releases, too bad we live in CA.
A standard 92 mag will work in the compact, but will stick out the bottom further...and still have only 10 rounds.

Do NOT mix 96 with 92. There's a dude on YouTube called ACSBLUEYE that states the mags are interchangeable; they are not. They look VERY similar, but the .40 mags have ever-so-slightly wider feed lips, and the 9s will be very loose with just the rim held by the lips. Ask me how I know

If it were mine I'd just pony up for the correct mags . I personally couldn't stand it if they were sticking out the bottom.
