    Front strap and coating recommendation.

    Howdy,

Looking for a place to send a SA full railed TRP to get sharp front strap changed to either just knocking down the pointy parts or something totally different. Though about sanding it or filing. Hate to mess it up myself.

And while there get it coated with Cerakote tungsten (or some other gray) just the frame only.

Any recommendations, like to get both done at one shop. NorCal preferred, but not against shipping.

Hope the is the right forum.

    Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a waist of money. You'll lower the value of your gun and it'll have less traction. 20 LPI is the best FSC IMO!

Agreed here, but I guess to each their own.

Wonder if just the Cerakote will take the edge off. Not worried about the resale of a $1500 1911, be different if a Wilson, NHC, SA Pro...

My girls like to shoot it, just hurts there hands. Maybe shooting gloves or wrap around's.

SACS is not currently accepting work AFAIK.

I got mine chromed from them. Really good job.

I get it, a $1500 1911 is low budget for some of us and a grail for others.

I have a Les Baer SRP with 20 LPI with dupont finish and the finish makes it feel smoother vs my Blued Baer with 30 LPI. So the Cerakoteing might help.

I personally don't like 20 lpi... I had my Springfield done (by Springfield) at 25 lpi.. it's better.

The 30 lpi on my Baer is pretty comfortable..

                  To each their own..

I actually like the 20lpi on my TRP as well as the factory sandpaper grips. That thing ain't moving in your hands. Had to knock a few sharper points near the bottom of the magwell. Used a diamond file and a few quick passes to round out the sharp edges.

After having front straps checkered 20Lpi, 25Lpi, and 30Lpi and putting extensive rounds through each of my 1911's I like 25Lpi the best.

I wound up going with the Hogue laser grips myself. While I know wrap around aren't for everybody, I due love holding it. They are very comfortable and should I ever choose to sell the gun I can put the panels back on. I was able to find for 180.00 my wife loves to use the laser and holds pretty well. I only use it about half the time. Lasers seem to be a novelty for some people, but are fun from time to time. I've never regretted the purchase.
