    M&P .45

I own both so I guess I can render an informed opinion. I bought the 345 a few years back and found it to be a good weapon, somewhat a departure from the robust over-built Ruger philosophy. It was fairly light and very ergonomic. For some situations, the manual safety is a plus. It is reliable and accurate, and easy to maintain. It became my primary .45.

Just over a year ago I tried out and M&P 45 and found it superior since it is a bit lighter, feels better in the hand, holds more rounds, has better sights, and came with 4 10-rd mags. At the time, with the S&W rebate, the Ruger cost about the same as the Smith. The Ruger got bumped, and now when I want to carry a .45, it's the M&P.

If price were a concern and the Ruger could be had for substantially less, that would certainly be a consideration. There is nothing wrong with the P345, it is a serviceable pistol. It's just that the M&P is superb. Either way, you can't go wrong.

        Echoing what 11Z50 wrote.

I have an M&P45, got rid of my Glock 21.

I don't own a Ruger P345, but have shot & dry fired them - just don't really get enthused.

I suspect the M&P will get quite a bit of aftermarket support - Ruger autos don't. (For example, I'll be getting Storm Lake match bbl.)

And if I wanted a Ruger 45ACP, I'd get the P90 - absolutely bulletproof, a bit big, only 8rds but also quite accurate.

Love my p345 but would prob. go with a smith now if I had the chance. Honestly I'd buck up a few more bucks though and go sig 229 if it were a real question in my book. I know you only gave the two as options so money is probably the problem, but sig is a really nice firearm.

Sig 229 is overrated. Trust me, in one form or another I have carried one for work for the past nine years. Plus with all the huge gov't contracts, Sig quality (both craftsmanship and cs) has gone down significantly. My personal P229 that was built in the mid 90's craftsmanship is so much better in all the fine details.
