I think if your dad wanted the guns to be sold instead of passing them down to you, he'd have sold them instead of passing them down to you. If I passed down my guns to my kid, I know I'd hope he'd hang onto them and not immediately sell them. Just my 2 cents. If you don't have a big enough safe, sell the 1 or 2 that you like the least, and use the money for a safe for the rest of them.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

All Lock, Stock and Barrel is going to do is list them on gunauction.com which you could just do yourself there or on Gunbroker. If you want top dollar you will have to sell them yourself. If you want maximum ease you can consign them somewhere. Worst option would be a outright sale to some local random gun shop or usually not good to do so to most friends of the deceased.

In case you don't know, If you sign up to Gunbroker.com..they have a search for past auctions. This is a great way to see actual prices of what examples of your guns that HAVE sold for recently. Its the best tool to help with true ,current value. You should start at 20% more than these prices if the guns are going to be sold in CA.
I would not rely on the "Bluebook" of gun values as these prices are usually too light, especially in Ca. Good luck and sorry for your loss.

$$$ do not ship down here to LSB. Put on gunbroker and sell. That will get you top dollar or on calguns. Do not accept unsolicited offers unless you have checked current pricing.

Register on Gunbroker so you can check what the same gun has sold for recently. Off roster here add about 30-40% as a starting point. Bottom line start high you can always come down.

Look to Gunbroker.com to find comps. Don't just look at current bids, use the advanced search to look at selling prices. Also look in the Calguns For Sale area for comps. Prices tend to be higher here for guns that are "off roster."

There are certain rules about selling guns frequently, but since it's an estate, the rules might not apply to you. It's definitely something to look in to.

A dealer will get this taken care of in the shortest possible time, but you'll get lowballed. He has to make a profit, after all. Depending on what your goal is, this might be a reasonable way to go. It's like selling your car to a dealer versus selling it on Craigslist.

If I was in your shoes, assuming I didn't want to keep them all, I'd look up comps, then advertise right here on Calguns.

I'm seeing some nice Smiths, Colts, Rugers, Berettas and more.
Before you go to a gun dealer who may only mention his buying price (half or less of what they are worth, "think of the convenience!"), find a local gunner or maybe a local CalGunner that can visit your house and go through them for you.
Even if you have to pay someone for a private appraisal, it would be money well spent.

                      OP, my condolences.

I know my children well. So I buy and sell as I see fit. My children will go to a pawn shop instead of a decent LGS. JMHO, YMMV

Be very patient and careful. You may well have one or more items in there that are quite valuable.

You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We'll preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we'll sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness. (Ronald Reagan, 1964)

Don't contact Lock, Stock and Barrel. They will bend you over the ice machine as a way of helping you.
