    .380 ACP ammo??? Help!

What is good .380 ammo? And what is a good price?

I've looked on the various sites I've seen mentioned on here but I don't seem to find anything that looks like a deal or if I see something that may be a deal I don't know if it's decent ammo.

I'm new (so be kind, please). So far I've only used the sig sauer .380 since it was the lease expensive I could find.

I have a sig p238 HD, if that makes a difference on the ammo I should use.

    Thanx!!!!!

American Eagle is quality ammo. 380 can be expensive, so I would recommend researching & buying online while we still can. Plenty of other quality brands out there as well. Welcome to Calguns.

      I like .380 around 30 cpr.

Turners is typically too expensive, even their sale prices are so-so.

      Try SG Ammo

Others will chime in with their favorite locations.

            Federal
            AE
            fiocchi
            Remington
            CCI Blazer
            Winchester
            PPU (Prvi Partizan)
            Herters
            PMC
            S&B

I only shoot the brands above. All factory new, brass case, never reloads or steel case.

Best way is to buy discounted gift cards on ebay for Cabelas, then wait for an ammo sale with free shipping. Stack it with cashback offers.

I have been paying $10/box (.20 per rd) for .380 landed on my doorstep by doing it that way. I usually don't pay more than $12.50/box (.25 per round). If you catch it with a rebate you can get it down to .15/rd or less.

If you're interested in bulk (1k rounds) TargetSportsUSA offers free shipping on good ammo around 26 cpr.

What are you looking for? Jacketed hollow point self defense(JHP) ammo or full metal jacket (FMJ) range/practice ammo?

If you're just using FMJ, any new production ammo is fine. I bought some Miwal brand reloads from the gunshow once that was problematic but have never had issues with factory FMJ including Federal American Eagle 380.

For JHP, take a look at some reviews online and decide accordingly. I use Hornady American Gunner in my Glock 42.

Ok, go to your local gun store and buy some Hornady Critical Duty in the appropriate grain for .380 (90 to 100 grains). Shoot one box for reliability check and load your magazines with the remainder rounds. Gold Dots or HST by Federal are other good brands. Just check to make sure they work in your gun. Don't complicate this but you will spend about $50.00 in this endeavor.

I have been finding Perfecta (Italian) at Walmart at a reasonable price...

It shoots fine in my G42 and my P238.

Also bought a case of Fiocchi online and a case of Sellier Bellot on sale at Cabella's

.380 is not that expensive (slightly more than 9mm) or hard to find if you look a little.

As far as defensive ammo goes, I generally swear by Federal HST. However, they do NOT appear to perform well in their 380 offering. Not as much penetration as XTP loads or Gold Dots, although they slightly underperform in ballistics testing as well.

They have blazer brass for $12.49... that's way cheaper than I paid (and the least expensive of the brass .380! Would that be a good choice? Or would I be better paying the little extra for Fiocci?

A bit of a side bar on the FTX bullet and why I stopped carrying it:

I took my Glock 42 to the range after carrying it off and on for a few months to rotate out the ammo. Low and behold the flex tip got gummy over time and hung up in the magazine. This did not happen with fresh rounds. That's when I switched to the XTP loads.

Critical Defense and Critical Duty might work fine during testing but I won't use it for CCW anymore based on my experience.

                            YMMV

Just ammo to shoot at targets and get better at shooting! So with that line of thinking, I could choose the Tula from that bulk ammo site that is 9.99 a box? Scratch that... the Tula is steel, not brass.....
