    Sig p228 reliability issues?

I just purchased a west German p228 and Mec gar 10 rounders. The first few hundred rounds I had 1-2 misfeeds that I chalked up to limp writing/bad grip.

But today I shot 70 rounds through it and I had over 6 malfunctions. All misfeeds/nose dives. Also the slide failed to lock back several times.

I oiled the gun and I'm using Remington brass ammo so I'm really not sure what's the issue.

Limp wristing is only really a thing on polymer guns. Could be mags, could be ammo, could be something with the gun. Guessing the gun is used since W German?

I suspect the mags. I only use factory mags on all my sigs. Have never had a single failure.

Yeah I got it from a local shop. The guy said it had less than 200 rounds through it. The rails were pristine and the barrel had no wear.

The gun didn't come with mags so I have no benchmark with factory Sig mags.

Also, this usually happens when the right hand thumb is placed over the slide release.

            Change the recoil spring.

Find factory mags before you go too far down the rabbit hole. And change the recoil spring for a new one.

And the slide failing to lock back was likely your thumb. Easy to do on those guns. I had to modify my P6 so the slide lock lever was riding closer to the grip.

I shoot left handed so that's definitely not it.

Left index knuckle maybe? I guess my point is that there are numerous complaints about the slide not locking back on Sig pistols and the usual culprit is the shooter's grip pressing the slide release.

9 out of 10 times MecGar are factory mags. I would respring the gun and mags.
If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.

Hadn't thought of that honestly. When I go home I'll grip the gun how I normally do to see if I do hit it.

Left knuckle definitely isn't hitting the slide stop.

I have the same gun. I bought it this summer. I got a genuine sig kit from top gun supply. For i think $22.00. Came with a new recoil spring, slide stop spring, de-cocker spring. I also picked up a few mec gar 10 round magazines. They also were around $20.00 each. Being I bought it used I thought it was a good idea to replace the springs and magazines. To ensure proper function. Cleaned and oiled the gun. Took it to the range with a couple boxes of new federal aluminum 115 grain 9mm. Everything was good to go! Good luck. Hope this helps. By the way I'm left handed also.

The only issues I had with this SIG were:

Magazine not fully locking in on an older gun
Ammo-fussy, Had good luck with PMC and American Eagle

Maybe the previous owner has had the slide locked back for 30 years.
                              Change the main spring.
                              Ball ammo?
