Need suggestions to get a new hammer for Colt Python

Buddy of mine has a 1968 Colt Python with a broken hammer like this one:

Suggestions on getting it replaced:
-Send back to Colt?
-Buy a hammer and have it installed locally (SF Bay Area)?
-Other?

Check out some of the gun restoration/repair companies and have it welded and re-finished.

I'd call Colt and see if they can replace. In addition to fitting the new hammer, replacing it may well involve a fair amount of fitting of other parts or using other new parts such as rebound lever, cylinder bolt, etc.

Numrich shows $195.00 for a new hammer and they're out of stock. GB has a "broken spur" hammer with spur for $50.00 with 2 days left. Getting that spur for $50.00 and selling off the lower part may be the way to go. No parts fitting, just weld the spur and do a little clean up.

You'd think Colt could help but I've given up on them after my last half dozen or so calls to them resulted in nothing but frustration

I am not positive, but pretty sure Colt does not work on double action revolvers any more. Since Grant Cunningham is retired, Frank Glenn in Arizona is the man to call. Perfect time to have him tune that Python as long as he has it.

Colt

Colt doesn't work on python any longer. I had the same issue a year ago.. I found a hammer off flebay.
