HST, Gold Dot, Ranger. Some bullet types don't expand as reliably at lower velocities. The Ranger brand has several bullet types, so be aware of which one you're buying. Some types of bonded bullets that are designed to be "barrier blind" do not expand as reliably as others at lower velocities. i.e .45 ACP 230 grain bullets at <900 fps.

If a gun doesn't feed any HP ammo reliably, the gun is the problem, not the ammo. The nonsense about using FMJ for "reliability" is from decades ago (at least) and is irrelevant in regards to modern firearms. A Glock will be fine with virtually all modern ammo.

If grandpa's 1911 won't feed modern HP ammo and that's the only gun you have, by all means, use FMJ.

Whatever hollow point round that feeds with 100% reliability through your pistol are a good choice. I've had great luck with Remington Golden Saber and Federal Hydra-Shok loads in every .45 ACP pistol I've owned.

          Out of the 3.8" Barrel?

HST 230 gr. +P ammo will give you standard pressure service barrel length (4.5-5") performance.

I echo the posts mentioning Federal HST's and SGammo.

I have a stockpile of Federal HST for self defense. Easily one of the best. I never shoot those for practice so the stockpile just keeps growing.

Another vote for Corbon. No worries getting a ftf with the safety and stopping power of a hp.

Yes, LOL. Hardball about a 50% stopper, same as 9mm ball.

Old school standby was 230 gr Hydra-Shok.

If your gun will feed them, Speer 200 gr "flying ashtray".

I'm another supporter of the Winchester Ranger T series 203 grain hollow points. I've heard good things about the Federal HST also. With today's technology there are other brands that perform satisfactory too like the Hornady Critical Duty stuff and Gold Dot Speer brand.

You should. That's how I found out I had some defective rounds in one of the boxes. You DO NOT want to find that out when your life is in danger.
