Gun Decision - Kimber vs. Springfield

Looking at a couple different guns, not a ton of availability of places to try before you buy type shops in the bay area, closest one to me is almost two hours away. I own a few guns and am looking at a couple different options. I really like the Stainless/Wood look and right now am trying to decide between the Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec .45 and the Kimber Stainless Target II. Just wondering if anyone has shot both and what they think.

This is not a carry pistol obviously, price range is $800 - $1000ish.

Apples to oranges, but I have a Springfield in 9mm and a Kimber in 10. The Kimber has been a difficult break-in period and the Springfield ran from day 1

I'd take a springfield over a kimber at almost any price point.

If your budget is $800 - $1000, save a bit longer to get a better pistol.

I've had the Kimber and Springfield models you mentioned, and also the Dan Wesson Valor. I'm not saying the PM 7 is finished as much as the Valor, but Dan Wesson / CZ is a great company.

I really love Dan Wesson's and would save for a couple of months to make up the difference as well, but if it is between a Springfield and a Kimber I would get the Springfield. That's just personal choice. I've shot a number of Kimbers that were excellent, but I've heard some less then flattering stuff about there CS lately.

It's going to be hard to get an unbiased opinion. Almost like 9mm vs. .45. I have many 1911s including Kimber and Springfield (different models though) and I wouldn't hesitate with getting another one from either company.

Well not to mention also that Springfield has great Customer Service from what the others have been saying on other Springfield related questions

Get the Loaded instead of the Milspec unless you intend to customize the Milspec in the future.

Edit: the post in my sig is a response in regards to a Kimber. Still makes me laugh

Big difference in what you get though. Are you going to be satisfied with the mil spec sights? I've got a mil spec Colt 1911 and the sights are good for what they are intended for but they aren't so great target shooting. I've got both Kimber and Springfield 1911's and you really couldn't go wrong with either.

I went through the same dilemma recently. Opted for a Springfield 1911. Like someone else mentioned, upgrade to a Loaded model. Seems like it comes with everything you will want to upgrade soon anyway. Just a little more money. Loving my Springfield so far
