    Question about off-roster guns

My apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, I did a quick sear and couldn't find the answer.

Since getting bit by the gun buying bug, I've been eyeing a number of off-roster guns hoping to find them for sale on here.

I just walked into my LGS and saw a Sig 220 Supermatch tucked away in the corner of the gun case. I immediately checked it out and other than lacking the "custom shop" marking on the slide, appears to be 100%. I called Sig customer service to ask about the marking and they said that some of the custom shop guns do leave the factory without the markings (odd).

Anyway, I paid for the gun and started my wait period but am concerned as to my knowledge that gun is not on the list. Per the tag, it looks to have entered their inventory 10/16. If it fell off for '17, are guns already in inventory grandfathered? Just curious(and thrilled) as to how this thing was just sitting there waiting for me.

Also, for anyone who may know, I'm told the super match is limited but nobody seems to know how limited. Do any of you?

    Thanks!

It was either a consignment gun, or your FFL pulled shenanigans.

Do you have a copy of the DROS you did? If so, what does the model say? And what does it say for barrel length? What does it say under TRANSACTION TYPE and under NEW/USED?

Guns in inventory are not grandfathered if a model falls off the roster, and that was not on roster in 2016 anyhow.

You should have asked the gun shop before you paid for it.

But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

I don't have the DROS on me. The serial number matches up with the supermatch according to Sig Customer Service. 5" barrel, listed as new.

You should have asked the gun shop before you paid for it.
They said if I do some research and change my mind on it, they'll refund my money minus the DROS. I'm OK with that.

I suspect consignment, which is Roster-exempt.

Improperly transferring an off-Roster gun is a misdemeanor; most FFLs are pretty sure they don't need to spend a year in county jail and likely lose their license and business over a couple hundred dollars (if that much).

Good. I hope it works out.

Not questioning if it is or isn't a supermatch - it likely is. The question is HOW the DROS was processed for this off roster pistol. The DROS fields I mentioned will provide some clues.

Even if it was a consignment wouldn't that still require a face to face? Maybe the seller works at the lgs?

Consignment does not require face to face, because a DROS worksheet for PPT is done by the seller in advance.

A no-consignment PPT does not technically require face to face either, but it does require the transaction to take place at a single FFL, including the pickup - which is what precludes any type of shipping.

There is a store near me where almost every gun displayed is consignment - and there are a lot of them, and many off roster/not roster exempt. You will never meet the seller. And they are not subject to the 1-in-30 rule (if not in L.A.) either.

nope. many consignments, the buyer never meets the seller. the seller basically fills out a PPT worksheet with his info and signature on it and the FFL then finalizes it when he has a buyer.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I left my DROS at my office and didn't get back there this afternoon. Will check it tomorrow and let you know what it says.

Now I need to track down one of those stores that deals in consignments!

                            No.

Only exemption is if it fell off the Roster during your 10 day waiting period.

Gotta love those guns. In the display cases, seen guys behind the counter put the gun back in the closest open spot, sometimes next to the sliding door which ends up being the back corner of the case, so from the front you'd actually have to stoop Low to see what's back there, esp on the lower shelves.

Found an off roster P238HD at an LGS consignment case tucked in the bottom back corner behind some SA cowboy revolvers in presentation cases. Totally hidden. Knew what I was looking at and scooped it up right away...

Congrats man, hope you get it worked out!!
