    My first 1911...

and all I can say is Wow!! I'm very glad I made that purchase (S&W 1911PD). The recoil wasn't what I expected. I'm really looking foward to customizing this gun. I'm completely sold on the 1911.

The recoil then is less than you expected?

I used to think shooting a 45 was a cannon. I then bought my 357mag revolver and shot that for a year. Then I shot my buddies new 45 and it was no big deal. 45 is big but not like the magnum rounds.

BTW I get to pick up my first 1911 Springfield Loaded tomorrow. YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Yes Turby..I was expecting the recoil to be more but it was manageble. I think the first thing I will do is change the grips..the wooden grips are just to uncomfortable after pumping a couple of rounds through the pistol.

I actually prefer .45 to .40SW as far as the kick is concerned (in the Sig line, anyway). To each his own, I guess.

Yeah, I can shoot my 1911s and Glock 21 all day.

I dunno what people are complaining about w/45ACP.

40S&W and 9mm are both light and nontroublesome, but there is a slight sharpness in both these not present in 45ACP.

[Did y'all know that the 1911 had to be beefed up when it was rechambered for 9mm? Sharper recoil spike, it seems.]

Can't wait to try my new S&W 625 wheelgun in 45ACP. Be fun to try some 45 IMI/Uzi carbine loads thru it - will prob be very tame

One other thing about the 1911 is that it's the one pistol that fits my hand just fine. I have small hands and I've tried the glocks, sigs, barreta's, and all the other wonder 9's but they all seem just a little too big in my hands.

What kind of grips are you looking at? I was thinking Alumagrips in a half checkered half smooth texture. I have also seen those Lizard grips (another pic) by Larry Davidson that look really cool but i'm still looking.

sometimes I can't tell a difference between my 9's and 1911 except for the bigger holes the .45 makes
Actually... the pistols I have that seems to kick more are my Mak in 9x18 and glock 23.

Ducati748r, I have the same problem, smaller hands
Have you tried a Hi Power yet? Perfect compliment to the 1911. CZ75's are a nice fit also... for me anyway.

Yea I was thinking of buying a pair of those Alumagrips... I found a website where the prices are cheap http://www.ajaxgrips.com/ajax/alumagrips?set=01
I was also looking at these grips as well http://www.vzgrips.com/ The VZ grips are a little more pricey than the Alumagrips but they look nice

I've actually shot the hi-power and I like it but like you pointed out earlier in your post those .45's leave bigger holes
