    M9A1 Spring Upgrades

So after picking up long sought after M9A1 and replacing the springs with a Wilson Duty Kit and a few other parts, I can't help but feel like the trigger is a little underwhelming. Here's what I have in it:

    - Wilson 16# hammer spring.
    - Wilson 14# recoil spring.
    - Wilson(Wolff) Standard strength TCU.
    - Elite style hammer.

My jankey trigger gauge puts the pull at 6.5 lbs as it currently stands. Not really sold on the TCU so I may put the wilson trigger return spring in or try their reduced power TCU. The other variable is the 14# hammer spring but I don't want to risk light strikes.

Right now the single action is significantly heavier than my CZ and USP with the match trigger. My friend picked up his 92FS and I dry fired it a couple times; I feel like the difference between his totally stock and my modified trigger is barely perceptible. Am I expecting too much?

      Could need a "trigger job".
I run 12# hammer spring in mine. Comes in at around 4# trigger weight in SA and under 7# in DA.

I posted a video on my 92 FS some time ago:

And here is me shooting it after I had worked on the frame a bit and had it refinished:

I had a noticable difference just replacing the factory hammer spring with the D spring and changing nothing else.

Mosin I saw your video, I think I'm going to put in the regular trigger return spring and the 14# hammer spring tonight and see if it makes a difference. If not I may give the Wilson trigger bar a whirl.

MoisinVirus - I remember seeing your pistol before refinishing in my post where Wilson Combat messed my checkering. Yours look great!

Rhyyke - I have been using Wilson Combat's 13# hammer spring & the reduced power TCU without any issues. My trigger pull gauge shows it has a 3.5# trigger pull.

How does the reduced tcu feel? I was thinking about adding it to my beretta but I heard some negative things about it making the trigger feel gritty.

After installing the TCU, the trigger pull is lighter but isn't gritty. However, it did add a very slight and mushy slack before the trigger breaks. I haven't had a chance to reinstall the stock trigger spring back in to see if it's actually the TCU or not but I'm guessing it is. I'll post again when I get around to it but not sure when. If it rains tomorrow after work, then I can get to it tomorrow night.

Came home and removed the TCU in favor of the Wilson trigger return spring. Single action pull immediately dropped to 4.5 lbs. Would have been the perfect night except one of my grip screws snapped off while reinstalling it -_-. Any idea what to do with it?

Is the broken screw flush on both ends that you can't grab it with a needle noise plier?

I broke quite a few hex head 1911 grip screws where the hex opening is cut deep and there is only a thin wall of steel at the neck. The head just pops off. The actual screw portion or the body shouldn't be tight in the grip screw bushing. Take the grip off, and see if you can still turn the body of the screw out with a screwdriver (the broken end should still have a surface imperfection or two. If not, use a small hex screw bit, put a wide rubber band over the bushing and the broken piece and stick the hex bit down onto the rubber band to get friction. Turn out the screw.

Again the body should not be tight in the grip screw bushing.

If you broke one of the original slotted screws, not sure how you did it, but... the process should still be the same.

In other news, my M9A1 shoots great and I haven't altered it whatsoever.

Well, obviously, they are great guns. The reason you change something is when you get picky, or want to try some other things out. I don't think anyone is saying it has to be done. It is all about preference.
