Normal frame wear on a S&W alloy frame gun?

I just purchased a SW model 59 and I just noticed that the frame rails have shiny wear spots. I know that this is a bad sign on Sig guns but what about SW guns?

The slide to frame fit is still very tight and the slide doesn't feel gritty at all.

Is this normal wear or should I be concerned?

It looks like normal wear to me. That's one of the main places I would expect it to wear anyway. Nice pick up by the way

Thanks! These are quite rare at least in CA and for $450 I figured why the heck not.

Bluing wear, like that shown is normal wear...even on a Sig. Great find on the 59...these are great guns

That is not annealing, however, it is normal.

It's ruined. I'll take it off your hands for a parts gun

                Did you mean anodizing?

Good find OP. Enjoy shooting that gun. I have an all stainless 5906 and an alloy frame 6906. Very reliable guns and accurate. I should've picked up more spare parts, although I haven't had anything break on them.

Annealing being normal is an old joke from a thread here on CG.

On the OP's gun, to be serious now, the anodizing is wearing away, however, it is normal.

Thanks. Any idea how many rounds it takes to wear away the anodising? I was told this was an old police trade in.

Not many rounds need to be fired to show wear like that.
From the pics, I would say you still have thousands of rounds to go before there is significant wear.

I would be more concerned about the buggerd grip screw.

My advice is to use grease instead of oil. Those guns being police trade ins they were probably carried a lot and neglected giving the slide/frame rails when firing.

Thanks for the suggestion. Any old machine grease will do?

I used to buy Slide-Glide to grease my 1911 frame rails. That's when I shot club matches every weekend. Slicks up the cycling and works great with tight tolerance slide to frame fitted raceguns. I switched to white lithium grease with alloy frame pistols.
I had this Sig P6 for a few years and notice how there's not much wear on the alloy frame. I used white lithium grease on the frame rail and reliability was 100%

Here an old pic of my 5906 & 6906.
