    Review...Guncrafter No name 45acp

    REVIEW....GUNCRAFTER NO NAME .45ACP
    Ok folks,
Here is the LONG awaited review of the Guncrafter No name. This will be lengthy but more details will be available in video form on the 3 part series of this review. As usual, part 1 will be an external eval, part 2 will be the internal eval, and part 3 will be the range session and performance report.

I originally got this pistol and sent it back to Guncrafter for a few mods and a refinish. It took about 8 weeks total to get the gun back, 6 of those were off at the Melonite finisher. I had Jason Rapp at Guncrafter Relieve the slide stop pin hole, flush cut the slide stop, flush cut and reverse crown the barrel and do a full blend fit on the magwell and then send it off to a QPQ Melonite refinish. As you can see in the pictures, it turned out well AND they did the work pretty darn fast.

What you can not see, you must experience....I am talking about the slide to frame fit and barrel fit. Not only is this the single smoothest pistol I have ever racked the slide on, it is also tight, but not so tight to impede function or require a mallet to break open, it goes in and out of battery with ease and runs like it is made with greased roller bearings. REALLY!

I am a lefty who shoots with an aggressively high hand hold, so the slide stop gave me some issues by locking back early often, but again as a lefty, I was inadvertantly hitting it with the knuckle of my trigger finger. If you are a right handed shooter, this will never be an issue. I replaced the slide stop with a different model that alleviates this issue. NOTE....GC slide stop pin is .197 in Diameter and a standard aftermarket pin is .202, so the aftermarket one had to be turned down first to .197(per Jason), if you do not turn it down you will not have a working gun. period. No more issues.
Let's talk about the Ambi safety. I like this design but I found it needing to be a little more abruptly positive. It worked and does its job but was a little easy to engage and disengage for me to fall in love with, also as is my pet peeve with ALL pistols on the market, I can press up on the safety with the hammer down and lock up the slide. I have a remedy for this but that is for conversations with some of the high end manufacturers to see who may want to adopt my idea on the thumb safety.

The trigger is good, not amazing, but not bad either. par for the course on semi custom guns. It breaks just under 4lbs with a slight amount of creep in the front end of the trigger pull, if you draw and fire fast, you will not notice it. BUT, I am a trigger freak.

The chain link application to the front strap and back strap are MUCH more tactile than I thought they would be, in fact I think I like them in the hand better than traditional checkering. If not they are a damn close second.

All in all, I would rank the fit and finish easily on par with my nicest Wilson combat guns and better than my other semi custom 1911s as a whole. This gun is one of my favorites for sure.
Make sure to look for the videos where much more detail and explanation is given as well as demonstrations on fitment of the slide, frame, barrel and trigger.

I don't get it. If the GI is one of your favorites, why are you selling it? Do you have any 1911 that you are planning to keep? Seems like you buy one and then less than 6 months later, you turn around and sell it.

Excellent report by the way. Please keep up the great work.

Some people buy, sell & trade, all the while searching for "The Perfict Pistol"
Not that I have the coin, but love hearing the reviews of folk that have firsthand experience with all the "above my pay grade" pistols.....!

Great reviews D, keep um coming!

Thank you. In regards to your above comment on selling. It is two fold. I enjoy having actual experience with a broad array of firearms, to see how each company does what they do, some I keep, some i sell, sometimes it is because I simply have too many and do not shoot them enough, other times a sale gets me to a place to get something else I am looking at, Sometimes I just sell a great gun because I feel like selling it. BUT, I gain knowledge from each and every one and my knowledge base grows and grows. I like to think I am a student of the gun and what better way to gain knowledge than to get hands on.

How does the trigger compare to a standard (non Supergrade) Wilson trigger? And if you had to choose between GI and Wilson...and could only have one...which would it be?

Good review as usual...and looking forward to the rest.

I love the work that Guncrafter is doing. I need to pick one up one of these days.

GCI is a solid choice no matter how you slice and dice the decision, Im curious though about the trigger comment as both of my GCI's are my fave triggers out of the box and that includes WC and Nighthawk that have found their way into my safe. Was this the only GCI youve shot or is your comment based solely on the gun reviewed?

Either way , thanks for your perspective and posting the review!

The review is based on the exact gun reviewed, It is a good trigger but not great. My Pro trigger is amazing, my 2 Wilson triggers were stellar, Baer trigger was mediocre out of the box, etc etc. I have not shot any other GCI guns.
