good, solid gun. You will not be sorry you bought one. But they don't have a firing pin block, so do they sell them here in this state?

Also, $600 seems almost list price on this piece, is that really the price?

i've seen them at one place for $617 for the parkerized version (i want parkerized). figured i should ask if it's trash before bothering to shop around (no place near me rents one).

They also have the GI .45 that's a little cheaper, but i've hear bad things about the sights on that one...

I prefer the regular Mil-Spec myself (taller sights and wider ejection port) best deal out there for a 1911 and you can always upgrade the parts later

I paid $423 for my stainless mil-spec, but then, I'm still waiting on Springfield to ship it out, and it was only that cheap because they have an employee deal. Go get a job at a Springfield dealer lol.

From what I've seen at most of the San Diego shops, you're looking at anywhere from $600-$700 now, Springfield upped its prices this past spring due to the manufacturing and shipping increases they faced, so I'm assuming the guy above me who paid $500 has had his for some time. The current dealer price is ~$550, so you won't find them anywhere cheaper than that, even the internet brokers have to make a little money, and then you'd still have recieving and DROS fees, and CA tax. So yeah, $600-$700 is a fair estimate.

They are beautiful pistols though, not fancy, but affordable & reliable. I spent a lot of time handling other 1911s before I narrowed down my choice. I've shot everything from Llama (lol) to most Kimber & Springfield models (TRP included), Colt, and the Baer Monolith & Thunder Ranch. With my budget, the mil-spec seemed the best way to go, and it can of course be worked on and upgraded down the line. Many of the Yost pistols I've handled were also based on the Mil-spec frame, so it would seem you can't go wrong with that if its what you can afford.

              I have a GI. It's great. Haven't had a single problem.

As for the sights, well, it's a GI model. What do you expect? Hopefully you know what you're getting into when you buy it.

It also makes a great builder for future hop-ups. And if you royally screw it up you won't feel too bad. Get two.

This is what you get with the Mil-Spec (versus the GI model):

-- stainless barrel and bushing (only on "NM" -marked serial numbers only, I think)
                  -- loaded chamber indicator
-- lowered and flared ejection port
                  -- high profile 3-dot sights
                  -- beveled magazine well
-- no lanyard loop on mainspring housing (GI has loop)
-- forward-raked cocking serrations on slide (GI has traditional vertical serrations)

                  I'd get the mil-spec...

No wait, I DID get the mil-spec.

The NM serial numbered SA Mil-specs were assembed in the US rather than in Brazil. They have a one piece barrel rather than the normal SA two piece. They aren't making any of the NM marked Mil-specs anymore so if you do find one, it's a good one to grab.

Another vote for the Milspec over the GI. The sights are decent on the Milspec, and aren't too good on the GI. It's the best value in a 1911 out of the box, and is an excellent shooter. You should be able to find one around $500, or less if you're lucky.

I've got a NM Milspec, and it's been a great gun. Reliable, tight, accurate, and a good platform for upgrading if you swing that way. I've only added some nice wooden grips and de-horned the magwell where it kept pinching me when I slammed in a mag.

I own a parkerized NM mil-spec model, zero problems i paid $511 for mine but they have become a little difficult to find lately best bet is gunbroker maybe. It is however, my understanding that all new GI's and mil spec models are assembled in the US and the older models were assembled in Brazil.

I had a Mil-Spec. It was a great gun. I prefer the features that they have over the GI model. Here is what mine looked like after a little garage 'smithing!
