Sphinx SDP Compact Surprise

I recently obtained a like-new Sphinx SDP Compact. I have read opinions about it here and there, some saying it's great, others saying it's not worth the premium (some say both!). I even read a mysterious post by @Canadadry suggesting he had heard something in confidence that would keep him from buying a Sphinx "anytime soon." I really didn't want the Sphinx when it came time to do the deal (I have been suffering from 1911 disease and not seeking a cure), but when the deal was first proposed I thought I wanted it.
I bought some California-compliant magazines (sheesh those are pricey!) and shot the SDP for the first time yesterday. It was only the second time I have ever picked up a gun I had never shot before, and had such amazing results. Granted, I'm shooting paper targets from 10 yards at an indoor shooting range, but my groupings were tight and most were in the bullseye area. Could have just been a good day for me, but that Sphinx felt unbelievable.
I have a PPQ M1 and a P320 that I love. I have shot around 800 rounds in each of those and I'm getting good results. Then this SDP hammer-fire antique comes along and blows those out of the water on its first time under my trigger finger. Not in terms of trigger feel or ergonomics (PPQ is nearly unapproachable on both counts), and certainly not in terms of platform flexibility (P320 is a grown-up LEGO fantasy come true). But when I pull the trigger on the Sphinx and land the results I did, my jaw just drops.
So what's the feeling about the SDP Compact? Did I just get a good one? Did I waste my money? Am I looking to a future when a Sphinx pistol cannot be supported?
Is it really just the price that keeps it from getting any chatter here? Because I think many of us can agree the platform it copies (CZ 75) is a heck of a good architecture upon which to build a high quality firearm...

In my case, it's lack of availability on the resale market....and hence, the premium price. Makes it "boutique-y" for me.

Gratz on the Sphinx. I decided agents the Sphinx during SSE due to the price and lack parts support compared to a CZ. It is a nice CZ clone from what i have gathered from other owners. Aside from the cleanliness of the Sphinx machining i never gathered how it was a significant improvement over the orignal, especially a tuned orignal. I am in the minority in that i get allot of enjoyment out of working on my CZs, so part interchangeability and support are more significant for me than for most folks i assume.

Op good buy, the Sphinx is one if the few gun I bought brand new during sse days. It's been on my ccw last 3 yrs. My edc is the ppq, but there r days I feel like switching it up like yesterday. You don't know what you're missing till you shoot one. Granted it's pricey, but in this instance, you get what you pay for, the swiss precision & quality. No need for mods on the Sphinx

Congrats. How's that first DA trigger pull? Some will rave about their da SA trigger the first time out and then realize they never pulled a DA shot even once.

Well, not as fun as the nine SA pulls after!
As part of my trigger finger training, I pulled the DA on my S&W .357 revolver (with snap caps). Do that enough times and DA on a pistol is just long, but not bad...and the Sphinx DA wasn't any worse than my Beretta Vertec (and WAY better than the S&W or my PPK/S!).

I agree with the OP on the SDP. It has nice swiss machining and workmanship. I enjoy shooting it because of its mechanical accuracy. It has a lower barrel axis and recoil than the other 9mm's I have directly compared it too (PPQ, P320).

Really like the PPQ and P320 but the Sphinx seems to be a jump up on several levels including price.

I just PPT the Sphinx as well, the gun has the best fitting I have seen. No lose part.
