    AR Pistol Question

For those of you lucky AR pistol owners: Did you transfer in your pistol from out of state as a single shot? Or did you build them off of virgin lowers? If you built them up, what documentation do you keep as record of them never being rifles? PM me if neccessary...TIA

Out of state is the way to go, maybe the only as once you own one you don't sale it off.

Well if you build yourself a lower from a 80% lower, it has to be marked as a pistol. You can't just get any old lower and make it a pistol.

It was my understanding that a "virgin" lower could be built into a pistol. Virgin meaning it has never been made into a rifle before.

As long as the stripped lower is not listed as a RIFLE on the 4473 then it can be built as a pistol. Not sure how Cali looks at it though....

I need to do this one of these days.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

Please explain why you think that if you build your own "frame" you must mark it as a "pistol". I have never seen a homebuilt 1911 frame marked "pistol" before. Are the homebuilt 1911s I've seen illegal? Or, are you trying to tell me that AR15 pistols are subject to special laws?

                  AFAIK...

The new 4473 lists handgun, long gun or other (reciever).
However, CA DROS only allows handgun or long gun.

Currently, in CA, stripped AR recievers are being marked as "other" on the 4473 but being DROS'd as long guns.

Hopefully, the NeRF push will correct this.

We get ours from a number of different places

Ultimately all of them are coming from out of state as there are no CA based manufacturers currently serializing AR15 pistol frames.

(with the exception of the homemade receiver builds)

The bushmaster Carbon15's are quite popular.

I got mine from PRK Arms via PPT transfer (roster exempt). Life is very, very good.

I built both of mine from 80% receivers. An AR-15 in .223 and an ST-22 in .22LR

It's my understanding that any OLL is just assumed to be for a rifle and therefore can NOT be used to make a pistol (ever).

That leaves two options, ship one in from out of State as a 'single fire' gun (avoiding that damn roster) then build it up or build one yourself from an 80%. The down side of building one yourself is it's easy to screw up and you can NEVER sell it. But you have the joy of knowing YOU made it.

Check out this thread to see pics my AR pistols...
If you know how many guns you have... you don't have enough guns.

People need to remember that the same guys who wrote the 1st Amendment, also wrote the 2nd Amendment... and for the same exact reasons.
