I heard somewhere it wasn't because of the performance but more about the ability to fill the order in a timely manner.

My department allows 320. I may get one. Hope it's as good as P226.

A number of excellent and complementary enhancements are currently available from Grayguns with more in the pipeline. Pretty cool stuff. Wish the platform was available here.

One of the major goals of the effort was to adopt a pistol chambered for a more potent round than the current 9mm.

So the Army can buy all that .40 ammo that the FBI and a bunch of PD's don't need any more because they're switching back to the 9mm.
