    SIG P320

Since the serialized part of a P320 is the fire control group, it seems to me that it would be trivial to create a California compliant model. Once you have the fire control group you can turn it into anything you like.

    Am I missing something?

The firearm didn't come out until 2014 when Microstamping was already required in order to be added to the list. No new semi-auto pistol can be added to the roster without having that feature.

He is talking about Sig making a single shot bolt or break action pistol, using the modular fire control unit - a pistol which would be roster exempt if dimensionally compliant. Then the FCU could be moved to the semi auto platforms by the owner.

We have discussed this before. Presumably all it would take would be for Sig to actually have the will do it.

Alternately an 07 FFL could use the Sig FCU and make complete single shot pistols from them. It would get pretty expensive though, by the time you had a P320 in your hands. That is really the barrier. It sounds like a good idea until you see the price you'd pay. The CA market for P320 series pistols isn't big enough for Sig to do this, in my opinion, and for a 07 FFL to do it one off would be pretty pricey.

Other than providing a work around for CA gun owners, I'm curious as to Sig's motivation to design, tool up, and manufacture a single shot bolt/break action pistol. I don't think they'd see enough sales to justify the expense. There certainly wouldn't be any demand for such a beast outside of CA.

Regardless, it's unfortunate. The P320 is an excellent platform.

Sig won't even ship P320 xchange kits to CA. Good luck hoping for them to make a roster exempt model that uses the FCG.

Edit: I was wrong and they do ship them to CA!

I called them on the phone, they shipped the P320 9mm Subcompact Xchange kit to my door, with some extra ten round mags. All you have to do is pick up the phone. They don't list all the kits they have on the website. They ship from two warehouses but only one of those warehouse inventory shows up on their site.

And bonus, you wont be charged sales tax if you place your order over the phone. I also got a 20% discount on everything when I used one of my Sig warranty registration coupons. And free shipping. Couldn't be easier or cheaper.

Agreed. It is a nice idea, but probably isn't going to happen.

As Skyhawk mentioned above, SIG does indeed sell the caliber and frame conversions in CA. You just have to be sure to order the versions that come with 10 round magazines. I picked one up via online order and another at my LGS.

I retract my previous statement then! That is good news.

This. Seems to me that there would be a huge HUGE load of pent up demand for the base unit, and after somebody buys one, SIG can start selling thousands and thousands of exchange kits.

Follow up: I chatted with the P320 product manager at SHOT. We'll see if anything comes of it.
