"Fixed" my USP

So I'm no HK fanboy. They have some good stuff and some bad stuff. It has always bugged me though that they have a proprietary rail on the USP. Even if they put a rail on their pistol pretty early in the game, it is a pretty easy update to make.

Last night I decided to "fix" the rail on my USP 9 myself. Now my x300 fits nicely on my USP. I'll post a picture later with a light on it.

What do you think?

nice, ive thought of doing the same on my compact... I agree they did a rail before it was standard... But its not that complicated to change your design to fit literally everyone else rails... Kind of the whole iphone charger... drives me nuts!

if they put a standard rail in it it will no longer be on the roster. as much as I want everything to go off roster so we can sue I'd hate to see this whole family of pistols go away.

Looks good to me. Polish it with progressively finer wet sandpaper, working up to 1500 and it will look almost factory.

I hear you. They could have updated the design before the roster was so messed up.

Thanks for the tip. On the one hand, I don't care too much about the finish because it will be under the light. On the other hand, I would like to re-finish it to make it look like a factory finish.

Excellent. I love it when regular folks solve their own gunsmithing problems. Not trying to be a jerk, but you left filing marks in the plastic. More careful filing, followed by some emery cloth, with get rid of them.

Can't say I'm an HK fanboy, as I only have one. It doesn't have elegant sophistication, but it's dead nuts reliable and will go bang every time you pull the trigger.

Thats what i was thinking....

I would be interested to hear whether you get any movement/ sliding from your light without any locking lugs since it relies solely on the compression....keep us posted.

I put in a horizontal slot for the light to lock on the rail.

On a side note, I'll do some finishing tonight to get rid of the file marks.

Ok cool. I shot my USP today......I almost forgot how nice that pistol is...accurate as heck too....even with the stock trigger.

I've had nothing but ultimately reliability and excellent accuracy with my HK products.

The proprietary rail sucks because it proprietary... I do however love the smooth design vs a ugly Picatinny rail that's more prone to snag on stuff.
