Wilson Combat Cerakote Question

Hello,

I have a Wilson Combat CQB with the black slide and OD green frame. I am not a fan of the colors and wanted to refinish the pistol. I love stainless 1911's, however, this one is carbon steel so that's out of the question.

My question is, if I get the pistol cerakoted by a local certified applicator, will that hurt the value of the Wilson? I really don't like shipping guns, but if I have to I can send it to Wilson for them to refinish the colors (looking for a burnt bronze/black combo or a grey/black combo) using their Armor-Tuff.

So what says you Calguns? Local guy applying cerakote, and will that ruin the value of the pistol? Or send it to Wilson? I don't plan on selling it (but you never know).

Local guy could devalue it, depending on how good the finish is. I would ship it back to Wilson and while its there get some upgrades done.

I didn't see that option on Wilson's customization chart. I have an XDm with a hard chromed slide and it's not really "stainless" looking.

I was thinking of this as well. Get some custom touches while it's there.

Just my opinion. I feel that yes indeed it would hurt the resale value. Personally I wouldn't buy a used Wilson that was modified by anyone other than Wilson themselves. That's just my take on it.

Robar it. Cerakoting a Wilson would be akin to primer coating a Porsche.

Don't know how you feel about magwel's, but Wilson's blended magwel's are a must have on one of their full size guns for me. Also with the CA guns, I'd have them dump the cheap ambi-safety that's on it and add their bullet proof ambi or single side safety to your preference. And of course add a set of their new battle sights to your liking as well.

If your primary concern is lowering the value of the pistol then have Wilson do the work. That pretty much alleviates any lost value issues.

Local coater would definitely devalue the firearm. For me, I wouldn't even consider a locally coated CQB if I were in the market. The only exception would be if it was insanely low priced, like $1500 or so. I agree with what somebody mentioned above, if you like stainless I would consider getting a hardchromed finish. In my opinion, the polished and matte hardchrome looks way better than the standard brushed stainless finish.
