    First handgun

Thought I'd share some pics of my first pistol, a High Standard Supermatic Citation It's an M102, being manufactured some time around 1960. My dad bought it from a friend, before I was born even, shooting it on only a handful of occasions. Most of the time it just sat in its box.

When I got my FSC last year and he told me about the gun, I knew it had real potential. When I got it out of the box, it shot OK, but had issues feeding and ejecting reliably. After about 500 rounds, cartridges were becoming regularly stuck in the chamber. With the help of various High Standard experts, I disassembled the upper, put in a new recoil spring, replaced the broken grips, and gave the whole gun a thorough cleaning, Unfortunately, it was still plagued with issues, so I took the next step and disassembled the lower, replaced the sear bar and slide stop springs, adjusted the trigger settings, and soaked all the little bits and pieces, including magazine parts, before carefully reassembling again. Finally, the gun is working reliably and I'm happy to have been able to put this magnificent piece back to good use Seems like it could be a real tack driver, and accuracy improved further than where it's at right now, though honestly I need a lot more work in that area than the gun does

In any case, enjoy the pics! This gun's been real fun to shoot.

And here's one more of the Citation with my 2nd handgun, a tapered barrel MkIII in stainless:

I have a similar version, pretty sure it's the 107 Military model with a 5 1/2" bull barrel and a 6" plain contour lighter barrel. The "Ray Gun" barrel does add a bit of style to it. Glad to see someone starting off with a nice target pistol and learning a bit about it to boot.

Numrich Arms is a good source for parts and magazines. The schematics are great tutorials. Adding a barrel or two, from Numrich or a new Volquartsen version with scope rail, adds to versatility.

Really nice. Older .22 pistols are awesome.

The High Standards are wonderful firearms. I have a Victor that is a tack driver. I might also add - you might consider going on ebay or elsewhere if you can find it, to get a magazine lip adjustment tool. because of the way the high standards work there is no feed ramp and they are very sensitive regarding the angle that the feed lips are at. If the round hits too high on the breech face the lips need to be tightened. If they hit too low on the breech face they need to be loosened. Unfortunately just about every magazine I have purchased needs some minor tweeks...Good luck with that great firearm

I had a Supermatic, but received it with no barrel weights. I tossed it into a trade deal, about 25 year ago.

Of course, now, I bang my head on the floor for being so foolish!

Wonderful gun. Have fun with it!
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

That or a Colt Woodsman. I agree with the premise that there is something really special about older semi-auto .22's
