    9mm Handguns Comparison Chart

    Hi,

anyone know of a comparison chart for 9mm handguns that includes lots of information from product page specs, price down to user experience like "works with all ammo", "low FTE rate", etc.

Looking for my first 9mm, lots of options to choose from.

how would you even compile something like that, seems like everyone has different opinions about firearms, their reliability - who do you believe

also, 9mm firearms serve different purposes, you have to factor that in, not all of them are developed for multiple purposes, some cater toward personal use, as in CCW, while some aren't - that in itself makes for a difficult comparison

unless a firearm is a complete turd, its always a roll of the dice how you are going to like your 9mm

my best advice would be to rent the firearms you're interested in buying, try them at the range and see how well you get along with them, other than that, you're relying on the opinions of others, without knowing anything about their bias'

research online, Hickok45 reviews many 9mm, so do others - i've bought 3 firearms after watching Hickok45 reviews, the 9mm Px4 Storm, my Ruger GP100, and, just a few days ago i bought a FNS 9C

Not impressed about G19 not having a safety switch, the trigger switch just doesn't cut it.

How would you even compile it? Easy, you go through complete reviews of gun enthusiasts, note their pros and cons, consider their biases, add it to the list. CCW, personal use, etc, that's part of the size, and can be listed under "Uses" row under each gun. Yes, the comparison will be a little general in certain areas and biased in others, but it's still possible to have a comprehensive chart of features, uses, price, opinions, etc.
Chart should be dynamic to be able to sort by all available options, from manufacturer, price, recommended uses, features, etc.

How would you even? Lack of imagination...

Not that I know of. And I woukd probably not want to see a chart like that.

Why don't you let us know what you are used to shooting and what you are looking for from a gun and maybe people here can recommend things for you.

Great start to the list! These are fantastic examples of lacking pistols.

Springfield Armor XD for play, XDs for EDC CCW - now those are worthy of some coin.

(My post is a prime example of how your comparison chart will inevitable fall apart.)

it's not really lack of imagination, people just have different taste, different like and dislikes

how do you rate a firearm if 50 people say the grip is too little, and, 35 people say the grip is just right - does that make the 50 people right and the 35 people wrong - see what im getting at??

there are some things you can compare, pricing, size, etc

some things you can't - people have different needs, different intended uses

i like ice cream, but not a truckload of it, im much better off researching whatever firearm i see myself having, keeping my own personal interest in mind

I had a list like that for the set of guns I was considering, but it was highly personal and, really, the only way to do is to make your own.

I would suggest you start with a spreadsheet where you list models you are interested in grouped by manufacturer (initially), then go to each website and write down the *objective* information such as size, weight, width, etc. After you are done, group the guns into categories you are interested in (e.g., competition, range, HD, CCW, etc.) and start searching for comparisons between the models - that gives you a good contrast between guns. Also write down the URL for later reference.

As you do your research, you'll be jotting down various aspects of guns and comparisons that are important to *you* - that's where the personal aspect kicks in.

Good luck and happy reading - there is a lot of good, bad and ugly information out there.

I am all for having all the information in one source.
Like a database that is always maintained and up to date.

If you take all the biased stuff out, I can see myself sitting down in front of my screen and, for example, selecting:

Caliber, size, frame material, safety lever presence, rail presence, frame width range, price range, roster/off-off roster, etc.

Then hitting GO, and having a list of all options that fit my criteria displayed.

Then, if you could include EVERY instance of someone saying they hate something about every gun in the list and EVERY instance of someone saying they love something about every gun in the list and have a "rating" based on this very biased info, I guess someone would appreciate it.

Impossible to remove bias and impossible to answer without knowing intended use.

Punching paper I might go with a long slide 1911 format or something else with a longer barrel which is the opposite of what I would want to carry. For carry maybe a Shield or a compact Springfield.

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

Exactly what I was thinking. You have to start your search somewhere, go from the manufacturer basics, once you're down to a few selections, then you can watch gun video reviews on youtube.

The size of the grip like someone mentioned in a post above is a stupid and useless parameter to have for comparison, and it's obvious why you wouldn't include it. Would you include how smooth the grip feels to your palm too, no you wouldn't because it's subjective and not something worth mentioning.

The purpose is not to replace gun handling at the store to see if it feels right, or at the range if it handles well, the purpose is to narrow down the search to what you are looking for based on existing options and available solutions.
