Yes. To purchase from a dealer, it must be first converted to single action only.

I purchased mine from Guns Direct in Burbank. I love it.

All but 2" barrel Rhinos can be transferred via single action exemption. If you want the snubbie, you'll have to get it PPT from someone who is exempt (or use any other way to avoid roster).

Wasn't Chiappa going to try to import some California compliant models that were going to be SA only?

Every once in a while these pop up and have always peaked my curiosity. It's not high enough on my list right now to justify spending that much money though.

They're available. You'd DROS it as a single action, pick it up 10 days later, and then convert it back to double action. If your prone to mistakes I'd recommend a competent gunsmith do the work as the conversion isn't exactly a piece of cake.

When they first came out I went to DROS one, but was put off by the weight (or lack of). Just felt like a toy, I wanted it to be hefty like a Ruger gp100.

I believe there is one Chiappa single action California model. I want to say it's the 5 inch.

Heh, you should shoot it. It shoots from 6 o'clock position (bottom chamber) so the lack of weight pushes into your arm without creating (much) torque that would punish your palm at the pinky.

There has been talk for a very long time about Chiappa creating CA models, but for some reason it never happens.

Since revolvers don't have LCI/mag disconnect/microstamping requirements, there is really no reason for SA only. Chiappa should be able to certify any existing variant, short/long, SA/DA.

BTW, DA on Rhino is interesting since what looks like the hammer functions like a charging handle on an AR - it cocks the internal hammer, but then returns to "down" position. The only way to know the internal hammer is cocked is to look at a small pin indicator (or to try to cock again and see if there is any resistance).

If...and I do mean if...those rinos cost less than $200 OTD, maybe I'd buy one.

Now if you just need a barbeque pistol to show-off with....
