    Glock 43 story

So I've been in Utah visiting family the last few days and I took my sister shooting for the very first time. I thought she had been before but it turned out she hadn't. So we had to begin from absolute zero, but that's ok.

I've convinced her over the past few months to get a CCW and so that's what we were trying to find for her. So I found this place TNT Guns and Range that was absolutely amazing, they even have an indoor skeet clinic! But anyways, I was leaning towards a G19 for her but I know enough not to push my suggestions on newbies, especially females so I let her hold a buncha different display models of various types to see what she liked. She was really fond of the G43 but their G43 was already rented out so we started with other pistols for her to try while we waited.

Tried a bunch but after a while we finally got the G43 and just for the hell of it I got her a G42 and some 380 Ammo for it just for her to see how she felt about the little pocket pistol. Surprisingly enough she loved the G42 more than the G43! Not it's cuteness or some stupid girly thing but actually how it felt in her hand and how it handled while firing. So I told her to trust her gut and get that, if that's what she wants. Ya it's not a 9 but a 380 that she actually loves and carries is better than a 9 that she is ambivalent about. So we ended our search and decided to finish our ammo with those two.

So while finishing our mags I got careless and started letting her load her mags without my supervision and suddenly she starts having issues with the G43. She does what I taught her and drops the mag and clears the malfunction and reinserted the mag. Again. And again. And again. Every round in the mag failed to feed and to eject so we had to manually cycle each one.

Finally she runs out of Ammo and I'm totally dumbfounded with why it would have gone from such an awesome little pistol to POS in minutes but when she hands me the gun I notice she had used the mag for the G42... I got nautious thinking how that could have ended so horribly if she had made that mistake with a 40 and not a 380. I felt so guilty afterwards and I immediately told her what could have happened so she will hopefully never make that mistake again. But ya it kinda soured a great trip.

But my saiga 74, Franken M16A2 and LWRC-DI were there to bail us out so it ended on a great note. I now am wondering if she'll get the CCW or an AR lol cuz she was pretty fond of the lwrc

Firing a .380 out of a 9mm isn't really going to hurt anything.

I like the trigger on the .380 as it is the same shape as the trigger on the G17-g35.

The g43 9mm trigger is sharp.. it tapers from the edge to the center and bites my finger/ does not feel the same as the normal glock trigger....

But if they are happy with the pistol, they will shoot the pistol.. and that is good...

Now buy her a 3-5 day shooting class for christmas

If you can load a .40 into a pistol that is chambered for .380, someone did something wrong as far as chambering the pistol

Owning both the 42 previously and now the 43, I can say that the 42 is noticeably softer shooting with carry ammo over the 43. Enough so that I've seen a few woman choose the 42 over the 43 after shooting them.

That's weird, isn't the 42 the same size as a 43? How strange that they have different triggers.

                  There's about a 10% difference in size.

And to me, the 42 in hand seems much smaller than 10% difference.

He said .380 from a 9mm. Bullet width is same.

in a pinch if you found yourself out of 9mm and had some .380 ammo it would get the job done, but you'd have a single shot pistol... you won't hurt anything.

Harmless mistake and a good learning experience from her. So don't be sour.

I find that most people after shooting / carrying both models, prefer the 42 over the 43, especially women. The 42 just feels right in most people's "average sized" hands. 42 seems a lot smaller, in every dimension, regardless of what the specs state. Pick them up at a Glock store and you'll be surprised. I have both, and prefer the 42 hands down over the 43. With that said, I usually carry my SW #36, or LCP far more than the Glocks.
