Replace the locking block in the Beretta 92F?

Should I replace the locking block in a 1988 Beretta 92F? I picked it up from a buddy and this thing is on it's fourth owner. There is no way it's seen over 500 rounds. It's going to be used as a range gun and a couch gun when watching Die Hard and Lethal Weapon. It will not see anywhere near +P ammo.

Is this as necessary as some make it sound? I'm leaning towards no.

Shoot it until it fails. If you seriously believe that there is 500 rounds or less through it, then I would say don't even think twice. I have an old police trade in that I have put well over 3K rounds through since I have owned it. I haven't replaced anything. The only thing I have cleaned is the feed ramp and it runs like a champ. (Disclaimer: that doesn't mean every 92 model will be the same).

Unless you see a stress fracture, chip or a bur that would cause a malfunction or damage to the firearm, I would say let it roll.

I'd say no need to. I have a high mileage one that is working out fine.

The square cornered ones can crack at the corner.
Both Taurus and Beretta went with rounded corners to improve the parts.
If you have a square one, get a rounded one and replace the square one if / when it breaks.

500 rounds is nothing. Unless you see obvious wear or cracks, shoot it and enjoy.

I think the locking block is suppose to be replaced every 25,000 rounds.

The Beretta is rated to die at 30,000 rounds.

                NOT!

Enjoy your Beretta. Shoot it to your heart's content.

Just keep an eye on it during routine cleaning.

                    Change the springs.
Change the locking block if you want to.

Is the gun fired less than 500 rounds but dropped on an empty chamber 5K+?

Mine broke years ago and I replaced it no issue......but years later a section of the frame rail cracked off. I contacted Beretta about hoping they would be able to replace the frame, as the gun has some sentimental value to me, but they told me they considered that gun to have reached the end of its life. I still would like to have it run again.

I'm a Beretta factory trained armorer for the 92f. There is no reason to replace the locking block with only 500 rounds. When you hit around 20,000 round you may want to think about it but even then take a good look at it because it will probably still be fine.

Thanks fellas. I just wanted to make sure that this wasn't a safety issue where the first sign of trouble was spontaneous disassembly at a high rate of speed in multiple directions. If it's a wear item, I'll replace it at 20,000 rounds which should be about 400 years from now.

                            I do appreciate the expertise.
