Thanks to all of you that have made comments since I came on board just a few days ago. I really have enjoyed the information I have read and feedback provided.
Just went to the "Range" here in Fresno with a friend of mine that brought 8 handguns for me to try. I felt like a kid in a candy store. I have been looking at dealers all over town for the last 3 weeks and was finally going to fire my first handgun. Remember, I only own a shotgun and have never fired a handgun in my life.
Well my friend gives me a Ruger .40 magazine and says load it. I felt like a wimpy fool. Man that is one strong spring. I finally got it loaded and fired away praying I wouldn't let go. I held on but dang didn't do so well from 7 yards. Buy the end of the 10 rounds my arms were shaking. Some newbie nerves and one heck of a strong gun.
He then hands me a S & W .38 with a 5 round cylinder. Sorry I don't have model numbers. That thing was all over the place much to my surprise. It was very light and had a small grip.
Next he hands me 2 S & W .357s and says make me proud boy. One was called a Dan or Dave something and it was like butter. Fairly light and well balanced especially cocked. I put a good grouping of all 6 in the middle. The second one was silver and heavier. I didn't handle that one as well but definitey better than the .40 and the .38
He then gave me the 9mm firestar I think spanish made from what I could tell. Loading the mag was a sinch compared to the .40. Firing was so easy I had to remind myself to slow down and take it easy.
Then he hands me the .44 mag. I laughed and said no thank you this time. Maybe when I can man up a little.
On to another S & W .357 but with a shorter barrel. This was nice but not like the longer barrel one I was begining to long for again.
I switched up a couple times between the guns to compare directly and then he hands me a little Colt .380. This was child's play to me now compared to all the others. Nice firing but seemed to fire a little off center. Probably user error, but I tried to keep it centered.
All in all I probably popped off a good 100 rounds tonight. Felt pretty good for my first time. I am all the more anxious to hit up the dealers in town again for a hopeful deal. I am already thinking about when I can get back there and shoot again.

I remember the first timieI shot my first handgun, those were the days. Of course I never had to pay for ammo 
Now I do 
but it is all in good fun. Hope to see you get your very own handgun soon, keep us updated
