1911 Parts question?

I know its not rocket science, but am looking for a little help in making sure I get the right parts. I want to get rid of the full length guide rod set up on my SA Loaded and go to the GI style where I don't need a tool to disassemble it.

What parts do I need? Also do I need a new recoil spring or can I use the same one? Any help would be appreciated and Thank you.

Main reason I prefer the GI style is I would rather be able to one-handed rack the slide on the plug rather than the rear sight.

But to answer your question, the plug and guide rod are all that you need. OTC parts from Brownell's will work, the guide rod may require some minor fitting.

I think you use the same recoil spring. So get those two parts as mentioned above, and just use your old recoil spring, but if you're on a website anyway, you can buy a pack of them to try different weights. However, I believe the bare minimum is just the plug and recoil guide rod.

yes, Springfield Armory's FLGR has a plug, and the small guide rod thing, but also a a rod that you put through a hole in the plug then screw into the guide rod, which effectively lengthens the guide rod to full length. The extension uses a hex key/allen key to unscrew.

I've asked whether you can fake a GI set up by just not screwing that part in there and was told to not be so dam* cheap and get the proper parts.

10 8 plug and gi spring guide plus the factory spring or use the Wilson guide and flat wire. All dropped into my combat elite without a prob. I hate flgr!!!!
