    crappy Sig customer service

I used to have good experience with Sig Arms, but today I just got some bull**** from their customer service.

I called to inquire on the manufacturing date on my P229 and the rep tried to BS me and told me "the only way we can do it is for you to pay $15 for a certificate to find out the manufacturing date". When I politely told him this is not true he proceed to say "nope, the only way to do it is with the paid certificate". I then told him that I've owned many Sig pistols before and was always able to give a serial number and obtain the date that way. Now he says ok but first he put me on hole for 5 minutes, then he came back and said "well, I can give you a rough estimate but can't give you the exact date", which I know is another lie since I've always gotten the exact manufacturing date.

So after all that I finally gave him the serial number only to have him tell me "ok it's made in the late 90's, anything else?"

What the hell is going on with Sigarms customer service? For how much they're charging for their firearms I can't believe this is the kind of bull**** they throw at their customers. And what's up with the up sell of the $15 certificate for the manufacturing date? Hell I know they can just check it, why do they have to lie about it and in the end didn't offer me much help. If this is the type of service they're going to provide, I'm not going to buy any more Sig even though I do love their guns.

I've only used their service once back in 2003 when my p228 front sight was loose out of the box. They had great back then, ups 24 hour delivery on their dime + fast turn around. Not sure now. They may lost sight of their customer service. Looking at the newer product lines, it's re-inventions of older designs. 1911 .45s, upcoming P238, .380 colt mustang copy. Complaints of sub-standard furniture and accesories on their sig 556 line.

      Buy a Glock next time.

Have you tried the SIGforums? The Glock Talk forums has a sticky on when owner's Glocks are made.

It's been that way for a while now. They'll no longer give you the born date of your pistol without first paying.

Sadly, their CS has been steadily declining over the years.

Not sure if I would call that "crappy cs," having to pay for the info. What do other companies charge for that info if anything? I do recall reading a while back that Sig would recieve dozens of calls a day inquiring as to born on dates, history, etc. and it would bog down the cs reps leaving them unable to handle actual cs needs.

Methinks Rob is right. Keep in mind also that a standoff with a CS rep about what's true or false won't help your case. Any customer support system has to deal daily with hundreds of crabby, if not out right furious, customers who all know that their problem is the only one that really matters.

If I may inquire, why do you want the born-on date of the pistol? It's not outlandish to me that they'd charge some money to find that out. Given how many guns they crank out during the course of any one year, I doubt they just have ready files of every single serial number that's assembled, passed through QC, tested, passed, boxed and shipped for sale for any employee to dig through. That's a lot of freakin' guns.

Are serial number production dates proprietary? Why not just put them on their website and be done with the dozens of calls per day?

I will say, however, that I've had no complaints dealing with SIG CS on warranty issues.

When I had an issue a couple of months back, Sig customer service was nothing but awesome in dealing with it. No questions asked, super helpful and quick turn around time.

                I have no complaints.

My experience has also been less then stellar. Sent in my 220 to be serviced and decided to buy a new barrel since I got a discount. My old barrel had plenty of life left and they said they will include all my old parts when they send it back. Well, they included all my old parts except my still in good condition old barrel

Is that end of story? Are you be able to get your old barrel back?

I would try calling them again or trying a sig forum since you can usually find a stickied thread with serial number dates on most dedicated forums.

By any chance who was the customer service rep. I just read on the sigforum about a couple of idiots in their department. I also dealt with this clown a month ago and the guy was a complete moron. I found the customer service manager's info on the sigforum and called her direct. Needless to say she took care of my issues.
