Question on glock 19 magazine release

    Hey guys,

A buddy of mine got a new glock 19 and i noticed the magazine release is pretty rough in the sense that you really have to push it in to get it to release the mag (an empty magazine)

My 21 is pretty smooth and if you push it in a decent amount...it drops the magazine. But the 19 wasn't like that...
    Is this normal?

A subjective "feel" is difficult or impossible to determine via the internet.
The main thought which comes to mind regarding Glocks is occasionally, the user's finger(s) are on the opposite side of the mag catch. As one presses the left side of the mag catch with one's thumb, the fingers of the same hand are impeding the catch being pushed while gripping the gun.

Also, a mag catch on a G19gen3 (& probably earlier gens) doesn't stick out quite as much as a G21SF mag catch. There are some other G21 models out there with mag catches completely different, however.

You didn't say which exact generations of either Glock you've got and no pictures were provided. To ease one's mind, probably the best way is to go somewhere to compare the same model with another. Again, this can't be done over the internet.

Worse comes to worse, it's extremely easy to remove and give a rub down with a Scotchbrite pad to smooth out any mold lines etc. And there are any number of aftermarket larger mag releases available as well.

get a vickers extended mag release.

You probably need to clean up the plastic flashing with an Xacto knife AND slightly bend the metal rod that provides the spring tension to the catch.
