Question about first time buying Online

    Hi everyone,

New to the field of gun buying..and noticed that many handguns are sold cheaper than local stores (sorry if this is obvious).

I've been looking for a Beretta M9 or 92FS and found many website online through Wikiarms sells it much cheaper than my local stores but all of them were 15rds or 17rds magazine capacity, I was wondering if its a common practice to simply purchase it and leave a note letting them know that I'm in CA and so that they can change the rds capacity before shipping? Or I simply have to find another vendor?

I usually buy my guns through my local gun store so I don't have to worry whether the gun is ca compliant or not, but I'd like to try buying my next gun through the internet.

Thanks for your time to share your input

The M9 is off the DOJ roster so that is not an option for us "regular people" in CA.

You will also end up paying a CA FFL their fee to bring it into the state, eliminating or minimizing the savings.

Call the supplier you want to buy from and see what they will do.

    Better info coming below.

Thanks for your input Garv. So my only chance of getting a M9 equivalent would be the 92FS?

You are right,,, I didn't thought about the FFL fees and shipping, which can very likely add up to be about the same as the local stores' pricing.

Yup... I quit playing the online game a long time ago. The total always came out so close to what I could buy it for locally that it just wasn't worth it.

First, make sure the firearm on roster. Second, add $75 or $100 for transfer fee depend on your FFL. Last, add sale tax. IMO ,the best place is here - Calgun - if you patient...

Unless you are buying high end firearms, it is can be hard to save money buying online when it is all said and done. The exceptions are sometimes blowouts, black friday door busters etc.

It all depends on your transfer FFL and their transfer fees. If you find one that does $25 transfers, you might save a tad on low end guns. But it is worth an extra $25 - $75 to support your local gun store, and to inspect before you buy.

That high you get saving $50 online quickly vanishes when you get a blem and have to deal with the hassle and delay of return, replacement etc.

I usually only order that which I can't find at all in the local stores.

                  Beretta CATALOG CODES

Beretta 92FS with 10 round magazines: J92F300 (CA compliant)
Beretta M9 with 10 round magazines: J92M9A0 (CA compliant)
Beretta M9A1 with 10 round magazines: JS92M9A1 (CA compliant)
CA Roster does not say the Beretta catalog codes on the list but if you're going to order online, specify the catalog codes.
In my experience, it's better to purchase your Beretta from your favorite LGS, less hassle.

                  Compare...
                  Beretta 92FS with 15 round magazines: J92F300M
                  Beretta M9 with 15 round magazines: J92M9A0M
                  Beretta M9A1 with 15 round magazines: JS92M9A1M

                    When buying online...

                    1. The handgun (exact make/model) needs to be listed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale or be exempt from it (C&R, OTP, SAE, SSE2).

                    2. The handgun can not include any large capacity magazines.
If your CA FFL dealer does not have a large capacity magazine permit, then they can not legally accept them. Which can result in them sending back they entire shipment.
If your CA FFL dealer has a large capacity magazine permit, then they can accept the magazines but, unless you arrange something, they are not obligated to switch the large capacity magazines to 10 round magazines (they'll keep the magazines for themselves).

                    3. You need to add the cost of shipping the firearm to a CA FFL dealer.

                    4. You need to add the cost of the transfer.
Legally there is no limit to the amount of money a CA FFL dealer can charge to facilitate the transfer. Prices range from $40-$250 + $25 DROS fee (average cost is around $75).

                    5. You need to add the CA use tax (calculate at the same rate as sales tax) to the cost of the firearm. This tax will be collected during the time of transfer by the CA FFL dealer.

I've bought 7 firearms from BudsGuns and had them shipped to 2AZone. Their Calguns screen name is Baboosh.

I would contact them about getting any gun you want. Its a kitchen table FFL run by wife and husband. They charge 65.00, this includes dros and transfer fees. You also have to pay tax.

Browse our Beretta Handguns on BudsGunShop.com. We offer the largest selection of Handguns and our everyday low prices making shopping easy.

I apologize, my eyes skipped right past the M9 Commercial when I looked.

Roster shmoster. Every one knows you can get a gun shipped directly to your door. It's easier than getting a library book. Obama says so. I believe him.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.
