    Glock 30 Questions

Hey all, I'm turning 21 this month and want to pick up a Glock model 30 in .45.
Some questions for those of you who own them:
    How is the recoil?
    How is the accuracy?
These are pretty much all I'm wondering about. Thanks!

I'm going to tell you what a lot of people here are going to tell you, what they all told me when I was in your position. Go out and try it out yourself at a range! See how it feels in your hands.

Its the only way you know for sure...you wont regret it. You'll have a lot of fun trust.

Initially, I thought the grip was too "fat". After having it for a little over a year, the G36 came out and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. When I did, I thought it was too "thin" and my G30 was just right. It's a matter of what you get used to.

I don't find the recoil bad at all. To me it is less difficult than the 9mm G26. It is a personal thing I expect. You need to try it yourself.

As to accuracy, about half the time I shoot it better than I shoot my Sig P220. I have both on my Kalifornia carry permit and I never carry the P220 (it's too big). I really like the way the G30 shoots. But again, it's what you get used to and a personal thing.

I've had a G30 for 4 years or so. I really like it and shoot it better than some of my other 45's. In fact, right now it is my nighstand weapon of choice. I think the fat grip is something I like especially on a compact firearm.

But, get out there and try one to see if you like it. No better way to know.

It is an excellent firearm but I must echo the others and state you should rent it and try it first. Also since it is your first handgun try to resist the temptation to get the bigger caliber. 45, 9mm, 10mm, whatever! If you can't shoot it well it does not matter what the caliber is! Oh, and don't feel undergunned with a 9mm, especially if you can shoot it easier and generally speaking you can buy a lot more ammo for the price

          Good luck and have fun!!

Go to a range and try it. Also, if the 30's grip is too fat for you, see if they have the 30SF.

My personal opinions and answers to your 2 questions:
            1) For a .45 ACP, it does not kick very much. Kicks less than the .40 G23 and G27, but slightly more than the 9mm G26.
            2) Accuracy is very good for a pistol of that size. It may not compete with the $1G or $2G customized 1911's, but for combat accuracy, it is on par with full-size models from other brands.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Thanks alot guys. I was thinking of going with the 23, but like a few of you have said, I DO like the fatter grip on the 30. I've shot a few forty fives, One a ruger which I didn't like, the other a Wilson combat which was amazing, I couldn't believe the accuracy. Anyway, I'm gonna go to the range and test one out first just to be sure.

It all depends on the shooter.

If it feels comfortable and you can shoot it well, by all means, get it. But, I would recommend not getting a subcompact gun as your first pistol. Do you have any need to conceal it? If you do, then get it, but if you don't, I would recommend getting a glock 21 (same caliber, higher capacity if you have the mags, and the option of getting a 21c (compensated)).

Oh, and whatever you do, make sure to shoot the hell out of it!

I purchased my G30 back when they first came out. I find it to easily be the softest and most accurate hadgun I own. Before I had a chance to shoot a range G30 I though it would have a huge kick and thought the grip was really thick. My first magazine through it immediately changed my mind. I'll never forget that first time shooting a G30. My first mag was a 1 inch group. I thought this might just be a fluke but when the rest of the 100 rounds returned similar results I was just awe struck. Some say that the 30 is glocks most accurate firearm which I tend to agree with.

I immediately left the range, went to my local gun shop and purchased my very own G30. To this day I still love my G30 even more than my beloved 1911's. My 30 was my first ccw before I went through my "smaller is better stage" and I never felt one ounce of concern with it. Some folks complain that it is too thick and stands out like a tumor on the belt. I never felt this way and carried mine in a Sparks VMII for Iwb carry or a Alessi CQC-S for owb carry.

Back when the 30SF came out I considered trading in my 30 but after handling a SF I didn't see the benefit of trading up.

Buy a Big Dawg G30, you will not be disappointed.

I went out the other night and fired an S and W .500, them my .44 mag, then my G19, then my 30. By the time I got to the 30 it felt like I was shooting a .22. This is only a small exaggeration, it is a very soft shooting gun. I looooove my 30sf.

I'm not sure why you would want a sub compact as a first handgun. If you are looking for something for basic Home Defense you might want to consider a full size like a Glock 21 with a rail.

The G30 is a good backup gun but its short barrel means you have to use special ammo to deal with the lower velocity of the bullet.

That said, I rented a G30 and was surprised that is didn't kick as much as I thought. It did, however have a huge muzzle flash. This could affect your ability to hit a target in the dark if you are worried about night intruders.

I know this is subjective, but also horsefeathers. Try shooting a top ported revolver at night. It's got more flames coming out of it than one of the backstreet boys.

It is MY first handgun, It isn't my first time with one, I have others in the house and been shooting my entire life, I'm not a noob to firearms by any means. I like the 30 better than the full size because I'm 5 foot 6, there for my hands aren't huge, Full size glocks feel to big for me. Also, for specials ammunition, Of course I would use +P ammo for home defense. 1000 FPS is plenty fine for a 230 grain bullet. For night intruders, I plan on getting a Surefire light attachment.

I actually feel that a G30's size is not a limiting factor. I purchased a G21 not to long after getting my G30. To me the gun felt so much thicker than my 30 and didn't feel as balanced. I ended up selling my 21 because I liked the 30 more and in my hands it was more accurate.

I don't agree with the need for special ammo. I shoot standard velocity hp's as my defensive rounds. The only complaint I can make about glocks is their use of polygonal barrels compared to standard rifled barrels. I reload and with the cost of jacketed bullets I have switched to hard cast bullets exclusively. I won't get into the whole "shooting lead out of a glock is bad" discussion because there are plenty of people who do and many who don't. Just know that you can buy drop in aftermarket barrels so you can shoot hc.
