    Self defense

What would you say is a good training distance for self defense?
It is better to stand and fight. If you run, you will only die tired

measure the distance of the longest area in your home and go from there.
there is also the 21 foot rule to consider

If you want thorough training, you need to be able to shoot at any distance. From contact distance, from the hip, up to (and this is only my opinion) 20 yards. With a pistol at least. Any further, and you should be using a rifle or shotgun.

You should feel confident shooting multiple center mass and headshots relatively quickly from any distance within the range listed.

All the (or limited) training classes has taught me that MOST self defense shootings are 9 ft or 3 yards...

The base reason for self-defense pistol practice at, say, 10 yards, is the tendency of accuracy to go to heck under the stress. Accurate at longer range divided by stress should lead to approximately what you can to at 30 feet when practicing applying at 10 feet or under when under pressure.

Or, so I have been told, approximately, in the past.

See also https://www.personaldefensenetwork.c...out-gunfights/, which talks about LEO shooting data; it seems civilian shooting incidents just don't often carefully record distance info.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

10 yards isn't a bad suggestion. However, if you want to push it out further, go to 15 yards. If you shoot well at 15 yards, you'll shoot even better at 10 yards.
