    Contender VS Encore

Any single shot T/C shooters out there? What do you have and where do you shoot it?

I have an Encore in 308. I shoot it in Livermore and sometimes Castro Valley. It's scoped and am able to hit black at 100 yards. After about 40 rounds, my hand goes numb and then the real fun begins. It's actually fun to shoot. I took down a blacktail some years back with it in the range of just under 100 yards. It was in a small clear cut area in the Trinity alps.

I have the new frames of each and an older model Contender frame that is used primarily for the light stuff - 223 and 30/30 mostly. I shoot mostly handgun length barrels, have bought from MGM (Match Grade Machine) some regular issue factory and some from the T/C custom house (Foxridge). Just bought a CVA made 7-08 rifle barrel - they're on sale through Natchez for $165.00 - and will probably try it out at Chabot next weekend. I have an MGM 25/35 rifle barrel showing up next week also.

I shoot primarily at 100 yds, sometimes 75 if the 100 is crowded. Some of the more fun handgun barrels are 8mm Mauser, 375 H & H, 350 Rem Mag and 405 Winchester in the Encore. For Contender in G2 I use 375 JDJ and 45/70.

I think the Encore does really well, and is easy to shoot, using cartridges such as the 260 Remington and 25.06 - light bullets at high speed seem to do really well.

I have 3 contender frames and about 20 barrels in most of the popular cartridges and some great wildcats , I have some barrels that a suprisingly accurate and I have shot one inch 200 yard groups and embarassed more than a few rifle shooters with my pistols . I shoot very regular though .
IMHO the old contender gripframe shape is not real recoil freindly but is suitable for the cartridges it is designed to handle , If you are recoil shy at all get barrels with a muzzke tamer (factory brake)
A few of my favorites being the .223 , 7tcu , and the herret cartridges . I have a encore rifle frame and while it shoots as good as anything else in what I consider the hunting rifle class is not as much fun as the pistols.

2 Contenders, shot them mostly at the Coyote Point silhouette matchs.
Have a bunch of barrels, but mostly use the .22 octagon pistol.
          I also have .22 rifle barrels both 16' and 21', .223 rifle and pistol, .410 shotgun, and pistol: .30M1, .357, .45acp, .222, .22 bull.

It seemed like a good idea at the time, but hardly use it really.
