Can I hear it for some S&W 3rd gen goodness?

As a big S&W 3rd gen fan, I've been trolling for a S&W 5906 for some time, but I saw a 4046 pop up in the area unexpectedly, and those don't seem to come around nearly as often, so I snatched it up!

Sweet piece. One of the smoothest DAO pulls I've ever experienced, other than maybe a Kahr I once owned. Jailed it today.

I've attached a couple of close-ups, so that I am not alone in my appreciation of this 3rd gen beauty; as they say, drool loves company.

I thought S&W would make those 3rd gens forever. I went for a few years not paying attention and I was like "What the h?" when all I could find was M&P.

I don't want to make your head explode but a local detective just retired and sold his 645 with 5 magazines for $400. It looked brand new. He said they were used by the swat team for a couple years in the early 90's then got shelved so he bought one.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

I bought an excellent 59 with SIX mags a year and a half ago for $400 haha. From a private seller.

Also, just a heads up for the 3rd gen fans. My agency carried 6906's for about 10 years. I loved them, the sear reset is amazing. We did have four separate guns crack the alloy frames, all in the same place, which led to them being traded in for Glocks.

SW examined the cracked frame guns and diagnosed it as use of too much plus P ammo. The guns are rated for plus P, but aren't designed for a steady diet of it. We used Ranger 147 grain +P as our range and carry ammo. After about 10k rounds the frames couldn't hang anymore.

Here's some head explosion stories. I've never paid more than $400-500 for a 10mm S&W. All were bought since 2004, 2 were within last 2 years and some came with extra magazines. My 910 cost $100 about 2 years ago but admittedly it is quite beat up.

I got a new in box 3913 in 2009 for $350. Someone I know back east just passed up a 669 with 3 magazines for $250 I don't know what he was thinking. Well that is a 2nd Gen.

I actually have gotten rid of most my 2nd and 3rd gens but some I still am on the lookout for like a inexpensive 639 or maybe a 6904. I have a 909.

I seem to come across value series ones a lot. I picked up a 457S in 2005 or 2006 with extra mag for $250. It had slight surface rust I removed with no damage within 5 minutes. Sold it for $500 a few years back.

I don't have a gen 3 but just scored a Gen 2 639 with original box, all literature and accessories. Going to clean up the scratches when she's broke out of jail. I don't really care for SW's current line up of their semi's. WIsh they can bring back gen 2s and 3s.

For S&W to bring back Gen 2 and 3 pistols will cost some money.

They should do a limited run for CA since we're crazy enough to spend that kind of money.

Haven't seen a 1006 in CA for less than $1k for years. Used mags are stupid expensive.

No worries here. The only thing exploding about 10 days from now will be lots of .40 primer as I take my new-to-me 4046 to the range.
