Gen 3 Glock 34 Issue

My slide locks back like it's on a empty magazine but there are still bullets in the magazine, it may shoot 50-100 rounds and then it will do it every couple rounds and then run fine for 50-100 rounds. Recoil Spring?

More than likey it's just you. Watch your thumb placement when you're firing.

Get rid of that extended slide release. I had the same problem on my 35. Got it swapped for free at GSSF match by glock armorer.

You might very well have your slide stop installed improperly. The spring is probably not captured correctly by the locking block pin. This is easy for someone inexperienced with Glock assembly to do, and the result is exactly what you are experiencing.

In this pic, pin labeled 3 is the locking block pin (it goes in BEFORE the slide stop) and 2 is the trigger pin.




Notice how the locking block pin is supposed to capture the slide stop spring

AND THIS IS CORRECT - NOTE THE LEG OF THE SLIDE STOP SPRING IS UNDER THE LOCKING BLOCK PIN

What 4x4Trooper said. It's the extended slide release and your thumb.

I *don't* sometimes get slide lock because I ride the slide stop. I removed the extended one and use the standard.

Glock has an acronym that helps diagnose issues. In order of probability:

SAMM

Shooter
Ammunition
Maintenance
Malfunction

Yup if your shoot aggressively thumbs forward the extended slide release will catch... Change to the non extended part usually for a g17

The slide lock spring is a possibility but the 1 time I made that error, I couldn't get through more than 3 or 4 rnds if you went through 50, my vote is for riding the slide lock.

I agree, the spring being in wrong causes the problem very frequently. But there may be some in between condition that causes it less frequently. I have seen some people catch the spring and splay it out to the side instead of over the locking block pin.


OP - inspect the spring, and if it is correct then shoot a few boxes of ammo with only one hand and see what happens.

To OP: check the slide stop spring regularly as they can weaken over time. I've experienced pre-mature slide lock when the spring was the culprit. Not often it's the reason but the gun had 10 years of active use.
