Glock GEN4 with MOS????

I understand the concept of using optics on handguns even though I never use them .

What would be a reason to want a Glock with MOS??? Strictly for fun ? Competition ? Aging eyes?

Few guys I work with bought them , but mostly to have fun at the range.

If I did get one , what type of sight would be the best for it?

You have all three of the reasons I'd want one. I would choose a quality sight with a 2 MOA dot. I had a Trijicon 5 MOA dot on a G19 prior to this and that dot is just too big for precision.

Have two of them on my Sigs. Trijicon RMR 3.5 MOA is what I run and they work decently at that size

1.25 inches at 25 yards is imprecise? For slow-fire hole-punching maybe, but for combat/self defense fighting/training I would recommend 6.5 (Trijicon) to 8 (FastFire III) MOA

You pretty much answered your own question. Aiming is much faster when all you have to do is put the red dot (or triangle) on your target. Naturally, this is why competition shooters use them. The advantages for shooters with poor eyesight, or for home defense (low light condition) is obvious. It's also advantageous for tactical duty use, but less practical. Limited holster compatibility. Risk of snagging on gear or clothing. Expensive glass getting dirty with fingerprint, or get smashed.

As for optic choice, it all depends on how much you want to spend. The pro-grade benchmarks are Trijicon RMR and (to a lesser degree, less common) Leupold Deltapoint. These two use different mounting patterns. Consumer grade options: Burris Fastfire and Vortex (all three models). These two brands use the same mounting pattern.

Just recently announced, the Shield RMS, out of UK. It promises pro-grade performance/features at half the cost of a Trijicon ($350 vs $600+). Battery life is said to be 2 to 3 years. Battery changes can be done without dismounting from slide. Down side is it does not have same mounting pattern as RMR. Most aftermarket Glock slides are milled for RMR. Since you're considering a Glock MOS, it's not an issue because you'll be using a Shield specific mounting adapter. The RMS is also a low profile design. Claims to not need suppressor height irons for co-witness. With the others, you'd have to use suppressor height sights.

As for dot size, it's personal preference. I am in the process of setting up a Suarez Intl 9mm upper with the RMR06 with 3.25MOA dot. Some people rather have 1 MOA. Others want larger dot. My take is that it's a pistol. Therefor, usage scenario is most likely short range. 1 MOA dot may be better for precision, but harder/longer to pick up on short notice.

A friend with a Gen 4 19 purchased a factory MOS slide and added a sight, though I do not know which one. He loves it. If I had the money I would certainly consider getting another slide for my Gen 3 19 or 17 and do this.

Advantages;

- The dot is superimposed on the target, there is no alignment of rear and front sights AND no problem with being able to only focus on one thing at a time. Which is good i you have "over 40" eyesight ... ie; you need bifocals or reading glasses.

- It's easier to shoot with both eyes open. If you use iron sights you might see two confusing images, with the red dot, you still do BUT the red dot only appears in one image so it's easy to filter out the other image (the sides of the RDS block your other eye from seeing the dot)

- Once you are used to it, it's easy to shoot quickly with it



Cons

- What happens when the battery dies and you need it?
- Might be tougher to see in daylight
- It's electronic... iron sights always work, wet, dry sunlight, dusty, etc, etc...
- If you use an adapter plate (fits where the rear sight dovetail is) instead of a milled slide, the sight sits much higher than where your irons would have been and it requires some training to get used to this.
- UNtil you practice, it's hard to find the dot right away.

IMO it's expensive enough to get your hands on a gen 4 Glock in this communist state without adding the mos option. Just get a regular gen 3 or 4 and have the slide milled or get an aftermarket slide and keep your factory one unmolested.

I like the 6.5 moa dot. The smaller ones are too hard to pick up quickly.

Another con is your holster might not fit.
But irons might just go the way of the dinosaur for being that much slower.

Yea, you can always get a glock 17 and 19 gen4 MOS complete slide from Amazon or Ebay, but the price is pretty expensive.
the Meprolight FT Bullseye looks interesting, it looks like better than TruGlo TFX.

I own the MOS in 19 and 17.. Theyre mainly for Comp shooting with a RMR
