    Ruger GP100 question

I'm looking at these two revolvers and trying to figure out which one would be a better fit for me but I honestly cant even figure out what the difference is between the two except for the different grip. Any revolver afficionados want to share their experience with me.

Rugers website is absolutely useless, and the CA DOJ system for serial numbers/SKU numbers doesn't appear anywhere on the Ruger listing for the individual models.

    KGPF-331 / Stainless Steel Revolver 3" .357 Magnum 1/1/2017

    KSP-331X / Stainless Steel Revolver 3.06" .357 Magnum 1/1/2017

This is going to be a CCW gun (assuming my permit ever gets approved). Yes, I know GP100's are heavy as hell. I actually already have one and I wear it around the house all day without a problem. Unfortunately though, its a 4" and I can't find anybody anywhere that makes an AIWB holster for this ginormous beast so I'm looking for a 3" which I hope I'll have an easier time finding an AIWB holster for it, or if worse comes to worst, I can use my Pistol Wear belly band thing. My current GP100 is just too damn big for that belly band but shaving off an inch would get it in very nicely.

    barrel length

im assuming that makes it an entirely different revolver for the roster

im sure you're aware of how even a slight variation in color creates the necessity of a separate model number

the KSP-331X is also a 5 round capacity versus 6 rounds with the KGPF-331

i have the KGPF-331, i love it, but if i was going to go with 5 rounds KSP-331X, especially from a CCW point of view, i might consider dropping down to a SP101 in .357

i do like those grips with the KSP-331X, im sure they are interchangeable with the KGPF-331, if i hadn't just ordered some Sack Petersen stag grips for my GP100, i'd probably look into a set of those

      The KSP-331X is not a GP100, it's a SP101. The SP101 has a smaller frame than the GP100.

      It's like comparing a S&W L frame 686 to a S&W J frame Model 60.

lol, you're right, that's the SP101 i was referring him to

that said, then i already know those grips aren't interchangeable...sigh

yep OP, jigenax got it right

          KGPF-331 - GP100
          KSP-331X - SP101

the SP101 model is 5 round capacity and a smaller frame, could make a better CCW choice, depending on your preference

if i had a SP101 i could see myself loading up with .38+p loads, maybe even with the GP100 too, for defense

Sorry to derail your original question, but how does that brick not bother you all day? Or how big are you?

I really like my stainless GP100, but for CCW I think I would rather fireman carry Rosie ODonnell all day than CCW my GP100.

If you want a heavy .357 Magnum for carry the SP101 is about as heavy as I'd ever go. I've been carrying for several years and have carried my full size 1911 exactly twice. If you like Ruger revolvers and need one for carry, I'd look at the LCR in 38+P or 9mm. I promise you, if you had both, you'll carry the lightest one 95% of the time. The overall length of the gun is much less important than thickness and weight.

Carrying in your comfort zone is easy. Once outside of it, printing and everything else is quite a bit different. If you must have a full metal .357, do yourself a favor and get the SP101. Better yet, the LCR. They even have a 3" LCRx.

Good luck on the issue process.

Lol you're right it is an SP101. Why the hell cant they have that **** listed in the DOJ website. Pretty embarrassed right now lol. And Ya I'd rather have the 6h shot so I'd rather go GP100 if given the choice

I already have an LCR and a 642. Like em both but I'd rather have more barrel to get my rounds moving faster. Weight isn't an issue for me.

Oh yeah, check out Badger boot grips for the GP100. They look great and will cut down the size.

                        I have a 3" stainless gp100 and wife has 4".
I feel a huge difference in well it balances and carries. Still big but feels great in the hand.

Are you set on the GP100? At that size a S&W 686 3" isnt a bad option and comes with a 7th shot.

Curious as to why you want a revolver on your permit. What will your other guns be?
