    Help Me Understand

So I will like to purchase my first range pistol. I say "range" because I will only use it for casual range shooting with friends. The pistol I will like to purchase is the Springfield 1911 EMP compact PI9209L (like the look and its compact size). I checked the CA Handgun roster and turns out the pistol is CA Approved. However, I noticed three things when it comes to buying the pistol online. Some online retailers say the PI9209L isn't approved in my state so they won't sell me the pistol. Other online retailers say the PI9209L is CA legal but sold out. And, few sites offer two different versions of the same pistol PI9209L and PI9209LCA. I've seen the pistol for sale on Gunbrokers and Budsguns but I'm a bit hesitant to make the purchase. Can anyone please give me some clarification as to what's going on?

You need to find an FFL that agrees its on the roster and will release it to you.

Then you need to find someone that will ship it to that FFL.

Your path of least resistance is finding it in a shop here in CA, or Private Party.

Clarification? This is kalifornia. So I'll clarify.

One, they don't want you to purchase a handgun.

      Two, see one.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

You can always buy it from your LGS. You just have to hunt it down.
Good luck and enjoy your range pistol!

No online vendor will send a non-roster gun to CA (maybe they would but the FFL receiving it would not touch it unless you're exempt). Find one online through a reputable dealer, make sure the code matches the roster and buy it. Or find one locally, or find one private party, or find another gun that you can handle and shoot before buying. It sucks to buy a gun sight unseen, receive it and then don't like it.

Turners.com (Southern Cal) is selling the 1911 EMP for $,1,200.

Or you can buy it at Bud's for $1,028 plus whatever your FFL charges for the transfer ($35-$100).

I wanted an EMP but in .40... not on roster.

So I purchased a very similar pistol but in .45ACP: a Kimber Ultra CDP II

                    I'm quite happy I did.

Visit your local gun shop. Ask them to order you one. Done.

When I saw this I was thrown off. Both seem to be the same pistol.

Any EMP that comes with the G10 grips and not the Cocobolo grips is technically off roster and will come in a box with a sticker stating not legal in California. The SKU is still the same so it can be dros'ed if you find an FFL willing to Dros based on SKU.

All new EMP's produces by SA are coming without the ILS and are also considered off roster but again, no change in SKU. Make sure you know what you are getting if you order from out of state and make sure the receiving FFL is willing to cooperate.

I don't know where you're located, but you won't have a better FFL experience than with 2A Zone and it looks like they have EMPs in stock

Now, things are adding up.... Makes me a bit afraid to buy online unless the firearm say CA Approved or CA Compliant. And it seems all the good deals are online especially Gun Brokers.
