    1911 slides

    Hello all,
A friend of mine was given a storage unit full of his late grandfathers belongings and inside were two 1911 slides. One says Remington Rand Co and the other says San Col Mar Industries, he's offered them both for $250. They need a lot of TLC, question is should I snag them up? I know squat when it comes to 1911's and hope that I can do something with them, 80% or buy a complete frame.
None of the family wants anything to do with this unit which is sad.

I'd buy them in a heartbeat. They look like they are in overall good condition and can easily be refinished for probably not much money. The surface rust I see could probably be removed very easily with some oil, #0000 steel wool, and some elbow grease.

The Remington Rand slide was made for M1911A1 production during World War II. Pre-1946 slides from all makers of M1911A1 pistols were not fully hardened and are vulnerable to cracking.

The Remington Rand slide (and barrel) should be sold to a collector. I don't recommend using it in a "shooter". I don't know anything about the San Col Mar Industries slide.
        Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.
