    Redhawk 44 vs 45

Talk to me about the pros and cons of the Redhawk 44 vs. the 45LC/45ACP.

I have a 7" Redhawk that's about 30 years old - fun gun to shoot. I was thinking of adding a shorter barreled 44 or the 45 (#5032).

There is an argument to be made to stick with 44, but I have a G41 so I would have some ammo commonality there as well. I'm not a reloader (would love to, but not in the cards right now) but seems like there are a lot of cool things you could do with 45LC.

However, I've also read some concerns about the accuracy of the 45 ACP in such revolvers but also seemed to be a little gun-specific.

    Any thoughts?

I read a lot of wheegun-guy threads elsewhere, and no one has complained about the accuracy of .45ACP through their .45Colt guns. Yes, the leade is longer but in most cases (brass and otherwise) the bullet has not quite left the brass before it contacts the throat of the cylinder...

The remainder of your question boils down to the merits of .44 Magnum vs .45 Colt, a debate I prefer not to become involved in because I love all God's cartridges.

lets see... you have a 44 now...and you want to blow $ on another gun...but reloading is not in the cards right now? You need to rethink this and free yourself from the chains Cali laws by buying a single stage reloading set up today! You can always buy another revolver later.

Well I'm not one to discourage someone from adding a new cartridge to ones stable, so I would totally say .45 Colt/ACP - .45 ACP can be inexpensive range plinking and .45 Colt is available with enough pepper to hang with factory .44 Mag loads.

If you don't reload go .45 ACP. A lot cheaper to shoot, plenty accurate and powerful. 45LC ammo is expensive; .44 magnum is too punishing, and .44 Special is hard to find and costly.

I load target loads for my .44's so they are about the same as 38 Special. Lots more fun to shoot and darned accurate.

.45 Colt can be loaded to blow the .44 Magnum off the map. It will do so at a lower pressure while using a larger diameter bullet!

You can get +p 45 Long Colt loads from Underwood, Corbon and Buffalo Bore. You're in the same power zone as 44 mag. 300 grain JHPs at 1300 FPS. The 44 mag will have better sectional density if loaded with solids or hardcast bullets. I do reload so I would opt for the 45 LC/ACP for the flexibility and availability of 45ACP rounds.

Reloading - I hear you guys, I really do. But my wife has some health problems and we still have young kids - I don't get any length of time to myself where I can concentrate and not be distracted. That doesn't lend itself to safe reloading.

                      Thanks for the input!

This! Plus some kewl options for .45 like top break.

Oh and the weight of the .45 is generally less or can be reduced greatly.

I'm impressed with the RedHawk 45acp/ 45 Long Colt.

But I have rarely, I mean rarely, have I seen an accurate 45acp revolver of any stripe.

[QUOTE][.45 Colt can be loaded to blow the .44 Magnum off the map/QUOTE]
I've heard this said before...maybe bullet weight and speed are measured differently on the map he uses verses the physical reality map that earth persons must encounter on this side.

For about the last 70 years or so, reloaders have figured-out that a .44 Remington Magnum case can handle a reduced load that equates to a .44 Special. And a 44 Special is almost as powerfull as a 45acp minus a few thousands of bullet diameter. That would be under reloading for big bore revolvers one-oh-one.

How about the Super RedHawk Alaskan in 454 Casull? You can shoot 45 LC through it too.
