    Fixed barrel handguns

Just curious what happens when the barrel wears out in a fixed barrel handgun like Seecamp. Is it somehow repaired or does it become paperweight since you can't replace the barrel.

Usually they are dovetailed or pinned to the frame, Or sometimes threaded directly to the frame.

Wearing out a Seecamp would be a helluva feat!

if you wear out the barrel of a Seecamp, you should get an honorable mention in the Seecamp Hall of Fame.

Some people have their fixed barrels bored oversize and rechambered to a different caliber. Mostly people will just stop shooting the gun and get something else. If it is a collectors gun; don't shoot it. If it is not; toss it in the trash when it wear out.

What is so special about a Seecamp?

If you shot out a Hi Point with thousands of dollars in ammo you could either throw it away or send it back and get a new one. I'd guess the frame would crack before the barrel went though.

By the time the barrel of any firearm is shot out (with some exceptions), you've shot many more times the value of the gun in ammo.

A better question to pose would be to ask if any member has ever worn out a barrel on a modern handgun or knows of anyone who has. I highly doubt you will find a positive response.

Well made, and tiny. Ever shot one? They are not fun to shoot but slip in any pocket like a wallet.

                  Then you'd be mistaken.

I used to shoot with a friend who had to replace the barrel on his a couple of times by 65k rounds through the gun.

A lot has to do with the shooter's ability to detect the degradation of the accuracy of the barrel. It wasn't that the gun would not longer launch a bullet and be able to hit a target, but that it would no longer group all shots as well.

Whoa! That's an impressive amount of rounds through one of those tiny guns!

I have shoot out a couple of barrels in 1911s.
When you shoot in competition and hard core practice, 1,000 rounds a week is normal if not low.

A good example is a Distinguished Master whose pistol can not keep him in first place. But that barrel will still be suitable for a Marksman, Sharpshooter or maybe even an Expert class shooter.

From what I see at the local indoor ranges, 98% of people would have no ideal if they would need a new barrel.

Yes, a full sized gun like a 1911 I can understand, but a tiny pocket pistol like the Seacamp . . . . I couldn't imagine shooting that much.
