If you had to pick ONE...

I've been scoping out these threads for a while, reading up on different semi autos for the purpose of HD and CCW. What is your (or the woman in your life) carry preference? Without turning this into a heated brand debate. Parameters:
    • 9mm
    • Compact (Open to full size, not interested in sub-compact.)
    • $600 budget
    • Decent for IWB/appendix carry

I've spent time with the Glock 19 and the S&W Shield (both 9mm). Glock felt great in the hand. Sights could be better and I wish it had a slightly slimmer profile. Shield felt.. well.. small. I'm not a fan of the chamber indicator or the thumb safety for that matter. I've handled the Springfield XD (don't care for the grip safety), and the Sig SP2022 (decent contender).

As a woman, I keep getting handed the Shield and hearing "try this" from counter reps. It's a great, cheap little single stack, but maybe too little for me. I'm not a dainty flower of a girl.. tall, slim, larger hands, etc. I imagine I could conceal a G19 or similar on my person with ease.

    Any thoughts?

Not many free state options in this category anymore. Hard to beat the G19. The Sig P239 is great if you like DA/SA trigger - but about the same size as G19 even though it is single stack. If you think the Shield is small then forget the G43, LC9 (variants)

I carried the G19 for awhile and I love the pistol. The Gen 4 has a short frame and slightly reduced grip circumference, and IMO is worth it. I went back to a G23 for a .40 option, and my 9mm summer carry pistol is G43.

The nice thing about the Glock is there are hundreds of holster options.

If you are willing to look off roster, the Sig P320 in compact frame is very nice.

      Glock 19!

Not the prettiest, but it will get the job done. All sorts of options for upgrading the sights.

Ruger or S&W, whichever I could get for 600 that felt the nicest/rightest. I'm assuming the 38 cal S&W come in a 9mm option. Pretty sure Ruger offers one..

        Pretty sure....

If it didn't require moon clips, I'd probably go that route. I assume ruger revolvers headspace on the casemouth, so the edge is probably there.

        so, likely LCR for me.

          +1 on the P239.

Another SIG option is the P225 or P6 as seen in the CA roster for peons. That is not the new P225-A1 (not in CA roster). The new P225-A1 has basically the P239 internals.

Select what is most comfortable for you! I own a G19 and a Shield 40. Both pistols are currently listed on my CCW.

That will be changing soon. I will be dropping my G19 and adding a Ruger SP101 to my carry permit. Is the G19 an inferior handgun? No! It's a personal choice as far as comfort goes for me.

Do what is best for you.

From What I read from the op I would choose g19. It Sounds like it fits you better and I'm sure you could figure out a way to conceal it. I'm not a fan of small guns especially for hd. For Those reasons the g19 makes more sense to me.

To be fair you can easily modify or buy blanks that will get rid of the lci on the shield and 20min and a little snip with a pair of cutters will disable the safety. Did you shoot the shield with the extended mag? Might make it feel better.

I recently bought a Sig 2022 9mm. Great little (4") gun and can be found for around $500. Just went through a 2 day handgun class without any issues. The DA pull is stout, but the single action is comparable to my 1911.

Glocks are hard to beat if you like their ergos. They don't work for me, that's why I went Sig.

I found it disturbingly hard to even order the proper recoil spring for the 9mm 2022. Seriously conflicting info on brownells, midway etc on which one to buy. And SIg only offers it in a pack of parts for over $20. Another reason why glocks are so great.

Unfortunately off roster - SAR B6P 3.8in 9mm Compact, I freaking love this gun AND if CA weren't so ridiculous it could be had for right around or under $300
