    Having custom 1911 built?

How would this work? Or more to the point can you do it in Cal?
Say you wanted to have Wilson Combat build you a 1911 with 4" bushingless barrel, mated to a full size frame/grip with no roll stamp.
This pistol is obviously not on the DOJ list. I would think I could not have Wilson build me this 1911.
As with many, many other times I am hoping there is some loop hole that would allow this to happen.

yeah, I want a real custom Wilson too but I was forced to get roll marks and fcs on my slide...gr. I'd suggest you get something as close to your end result and then send it back to Wilson for any additional work you want. Unfortunately, the no FCS and naked slide I so desire is somewhat expensive, although I know I'll probably get around to it. I suppose you could also ask to have a professional (the 4 inch barrel, full framed model) fitted with a clean slide and then shipped to you when you purchase the pistol (PM if you'd like a dealer recommendation). It would be cheaper and easier than sending your gun back to them. Any particular reason you don't like bull barrels? I'm not sure I've ever seen a 4 inch bushing barreled Wilson.

There is no need to think of a loophole just send it out and have it built the way you want it built 100% ok if you own it.

How custom and how much money do you have?

You could start with the cheapest 1911 you could find that still had some quality metal in the frame. Strip it and sell all the parts, send the frame to Wilson and have it built the way you want it.

If you need the Wilson name then just buy one of their pistols. If you want as good a pistol the way you want it then find a local smith and have it built the way you want it.

If you want some ideas on how to build a great custom pistol PM me.

I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Just buy a Colt that is in the CA approved list, then send it off to Wilson with your specifications. They can peen the rails make it tight like a bank vault or option for an acc-u-rail mod. Everything else will be the same except for the series 80 parts still being there. I don't think any reputable gunsmith would throw those parts out for a defense gun, unless you sign an affidavit stating pistol is strictly for range use.

You can send any frame, from anywhere you can legally obtain it (PPT or 'List' gun) and send it to anybody to build into anything you want.

Wilson is way not among my top choices to build up a custom gun. But I guess it depends on what kind of gun, i.e. defense, bullseye competition, IPSC race gun, whatever. But no, you can't just buy any frame/slide you want (unlike most any other state.) Quite a drag, but there we are.
