What's it worth? Colt Match Target 22

I'm thinking of trading in this Colt match target 22 that I have. I don't know much about it. All I have it the pistol and 1 magazine. The guy that I'm trading with says he thinks it's worth $500. What do you think?

    I'd pay 525 for it

Don't see many of those in CA. Just did a google, looks like they range from $400 to $2000 in a free state? What year is it? Maybe less, but it looks like it's in pretty good shape.

Double edit- holy ****, serial number says 1930?

      Are these still available new?????

If not, then wouldn't they ALL be acquired in the used market, and I wouldn't think that "free state" would need to be a consideration.

I completely agree with you- but tell that to the people selling. We eat our own it seems.

You appear to be looking at a Colt Woodsman Series II Match Target pistol with 6-inch barrel and Backstrap.

Manufacture dates for the Series II Match Target ran from "1-S" to "146137-S" from 1947 - 1955. It's a desireable collectible pistol, and depending on condition, $500 might be a bit low.

From Bob Rayburn's Colt Woodsman page: [url]http://www.bobrayburn.com/colt22/basic.html

Scroll down until you reach, "Second Series".

Above left: The second series Woodsman, made from 1947 to 1955, is easily identified by the push button magazine release.
Above center: Second series Woodsman models had the Coltmaster rear sight (bottom) until 1953, and the Accro rear sight (top) from 1953-55. (The Sport model was an exception, with a fixed rear sight from mid-1949 to mid-1950 only.)
Above right: A unique feature of the 2nd series Woodsman is the provision for a grip adapter on the back strap. With few exceptions, each came with two grip adapters, a large and a small. The shooter could use either one, or none, for three different grip sizes.
The economy model Challenger, although 2nd series, has a spring catch at the butt, similar to the first or third series. All Second (and Third) Series Woodsman serial numbers have an S suffix; the Challenger has a C suffix.

          9. Second Series Match Target, Long Barrel:
          Serial numbers 1-S to 146137-S, (1947-1955), 6 inch barrel

I'd say at least $750 to a ways north of $1K. Pm me if you decide to sell. Sweet gun.

That Colt seems to be in very good condition. Depending on barrel, I've seen recent ones go for an average around 1000$ +\-

I kick myself for not grabbing one that had the elephant ear grips.

That push button mag release is very distinctive, not super rare but a
nice pistol. I'd hang on to it.

Personally, I think the value of that gun is closer to $1K than it is to $500. That one looks really nice.

Buddy paid $400 for one in near mint condition. Seller had no clue what he had. He was literally. Giving away his fathers collection. Not sure what series it was

Thats a nice old gun. I assume you would get some interesting offers if you posted it for trade in the marketplace. I would set the cash price at 1000obo or equal value trade.

See what else is out there first the 500$ seems lowball.
