    intrafamilial transfers

My dad lives out in Reno and asked what I would want for a present. I have been trying to do some research to find out about gifting a gun. Is it legal for him to gift me a gun that is otherwise illegal to purchase in CA?
    Something like a Tec9?

No assualt weapons and magzines that hold more than 10 rounds.
      Also, no Tuarus Judge pistol.

Ask him if he'll be my dad too for a couple?...

Well, you can still get some cool stuff that other CA residents can't get for now. Basically anything new/modern not Rostered is rare in CA. But, as mentioned above, no Pistol AWs.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

You can get anything thats not on the "Assault Weapon" list and any pistol you want so long as they don't have "large capacity" magazines and aren't in an "Assault Weapon" configuration. This gets covered on here all the time too so you can do a search to get an answer.

As long as it isn't an assault weapon, you can get the gun through the intrafamilial exception. It will have to go through an FFL in CA who knows about the exception. You could get a tec-9 type pistol as long as it has a fixed magazine and no high cap.
