    any experience with (magnaport) ?

    hey folks,

I am looking into some porting options. Originally I was looking at ported barrels and getting a slide cut which can end up being costly.

A friend of mine told me to check out magnaport.

Anyone here have any experience with magnaport and their services on your handgun?

any experience and input would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

I had them do a shotgun barrel about 25 years ago, and they did an excellent job.

I've got a MagnaPorted Glock 23 Gen3, but I'm not the original owner. The work was done very well with the barrel cuts aligning with the slide cuts.

Firing the gun, it definitely is louder as heard through my ear muffs, compared to a my Glock 27 Gen3. Both are .40 caliber guns.

I've had to go up two sight sizes to get closer to my point of aim vs. point of impact. Stock is 6.5mm, I'm using Glock's tallest rear sight at 7.3mm.

I personally wouldn't port a gun as I'd rather have a bit more muzzle rise instead of a louder report.

The 29-2 I purchased a few years ago had it done to it sometime in the 52 years since it left the factory. I didn't do it though so I have no experience with their CS, but the gun recoils less than the 29 Classic my dad has with a heavier barrel.

They are very good, no hesitation here

I owned a magna ported Freedom Arms .454 Casual. Magna porting keeps the muzzle jump down, however, it redirects the recoil energy into the web of your hand. It stung like a biach when shot.

I have a 7.5" barreled .500 S&W Perfomance Center with a muzzle brake. While I know it has more recoil energy than the .454, its far more pleasant to shoot because the brake really tames the recoil force as well as the muzzle flip.

So, personally, I'd prefer a muzzle brake over porting any day. That's my $.02.

Mag-Na-Port works very well in revolvers, less well when you have to cut through the barrel and the slide of a pistol.

The cuts in the barrel are partially blocked by the recoiling slide during it's rearward travel and there is a lot of fouling inside the slide. This is more problematic with some slides than others...my experience was with several different 1911s. That is why ports in barrels were replaced, in competition, by compensators

The porting works better with high pressure rounds (more gas) and longer barrels (more leverage)

                Having said that, I have a S&W M696 3" .44Spl. When shooting 200gr Gold Dot ammo, it shoots like a 4" K-frame shooting .38 ball
