After years of teasing the CZ fanboys, pretty sure my next purchase will be a CZ 75. My question is to all you salty, experienced owners. Are the upgraded models truly worth it?

What do you mean by upgraded models? Are you referring to the shadows or other off roster offerings or what? The best on roster cz pistol is hands down the tactical sport. I'm not quite sure I understand the question though.

LOL. Other than the time it takes waiting for CZC, CGW or someone else to modify your on roster CZ, you get much more for the money than paying a premium for someone in the Marketplace for an off roster.

As noted, the best on roster model is the Tac Sport. As far as upgrading a base model, I can say that Cajun Gun Works does wonders - and yes, those upgrades are worth it. Any on- or off-roster model can be upgraded.

I have a CZ SP01 that was upgraded woth Cajun parts by CAGLS and it is sweet. I did a review of it - if you'd like, you can search for the threads that I started and you will surely find it.

Good luck. It is never too late to get a CZ or two.

I don't have experience with an upgraded CZ, but I can tell you that a CZ 75-SP01 stock out of the box is one of the most accurate firearms I ever shot.

I don't like the curvature of the trigger. That is probably my biggest complaint.

I typically don't make modifications to my guns, with a few exceptions.

Long post short, I would recommend getting a stock version first. Take some time to really get to know it. Then decide what you do/don't like and go from there.

It depends on what you are going to do with it. If it is just a range gun, getting all the Cajun Gun Works crap done to it is like getting a top-of-the-line Corvette just to drive in commuter traffic. If you have the money and that's what you want, then more power to you. But if you actually want an appropriate return on your investment, just enjoy the gun as it comes. They really are nice guns out of the box. Sights aren't bad. Triggers get better with use. Maybe drop a lighter hammer spring in it after you've shot it a bit.

If you are going to race the gun, then have CGW go to town on it. Their work is the best, and the mods are worth it for that purpose.

I have an SP-01 as a range toy, and I like it a lot. Bone stock and it's a great gun to shoot.

Shadow is a waste of money!!! I know I have one and two regular run of the mill SP-01s. I shoot USPSA and shoot about 500 to 700 rounds a month and I shoot all three guns interchangeably. I can not tell the difference between the Shadow and the non-Shadows. There is about a 3 to 4 ounce different in the trigger pulls, both DA and SA. The reset is a little shorter, but not earth shatteringly shorter. When I shoot I just can't tell the difference between them.

You would be better off buying a plain old SP-01 and working it over, you will get a better gun than a stock Shadow for less money.

As far as parts, some Cajun parts are great and some CZC parts are better.

Most parts you can buy from either. BUT I would get the CZC firing pin is better as is the firing pin retaining pin. I order parts from both. The Cajun Type-2 Disco rocks as does their TRS, floating trigger pin, and sear spring. The Dawson made Cajun sights are better than the CZC sight.

Father has a SP01 and I have a TS, both are great. The TS has a bit chunkier grip, but I shoot it fine two-handed with my baby hands. Changing to the slim aluminum grips helped a bit. My father and I used the long aluminum grips and filed the bottom of the grip to fit with a magwell. We grinded a side of the file to have a safe side to file against to file the inside of the grip. Used a little vibratite and it's perfect. The trigger is insane on the TS.
